SHARING A CAR RENTAL

Considering that we didn’t have a car, he advised us to share the car rental, even if it was just the two of us and we didn’t know anyone else despite of him. So, we asked ourselves nervously: “But, who??”. Then he told us there’s always some traveler in El Calafate willing to share a car rental and you just have to look for them – if they don’t find you first. Indeed, it only took us less than a few minutes until a french couple ask us to share it with them, and go straight to the national park to meet the great and mesmerizing Perito Moreno, the biggest star of tourism in Argentina. It couldn’t get any better.

Your guide to great neighborhoods in Córdoba Capital

The most basic thing to know before coming to Córdoba (and we’ll assume for now that you’ll be staying in the capital) is where to visit. So this post will give you a brief overview about three of my favorite neighborhoods, or barrios, in Córdoba Capital. I’m biased towards areas with nice restaurants because I’m big on eating out and grabbing drinks with friends, so I’ll throw in restaurant suggestions as well! Also, make sure you check out my website www.travelwithshauna.com to read more posts about Argentina. Now onto those great neighborhoods…

Argentina stands high… on a fake platform

The first week in Argentina for me was an ugly shoe. The kind of post-apocalyptic shoe that looks retro Japanese mixed with the Spice girls thick platforms and sparkles. Who would wear that?

WHERE TO STAY

I will recommend some places to stay but it obviously depends on what you are looking for. Park Hyat Mendoza Hotel, Casino and Spa: it is a 5 stars hotel that offers accommodation in central Mendoza. the Facilities includes: a spa, casino, some restaurants, a fitness center and a swimming pool. Diplomatic Hotel: it is also a 5 stars hotel, surrounded by wine shops, restaurants, and stores. Mendoza Inn Hostel: is one of the city´s better hostel. It has a spacious backyard and a pool. Break Point Hostel: it has a big pool, a TV area, a huge kitchen, balconies and a little bar. Also I suggest that you try using AirBnB WHAT TO DO Wine Tours To begin I suggest doing a wine tour in which you can learn a lot about the process of making wine, the different types and, also, you can taste it. Many of these tours includes meals where you can appreciate the typical foods of the region.

Getting there

The region of Patagonia makes up South America’s southern cone and covers a vast area across both southern Chile and Argentina. On the Chilean side, it officially begins near the town of Puerto Montt and stretches all the way down to Ushuaia, commonly referred to as the “edge of the world” because of its close proximity to Antarctica. Argentinian Patagonia is much larger, starting well above the city of Bariloche and ending below the township of El Calafate. Luckily, many of the highlights are comparatively close together.

Get a Taste of Argentinian Tradition in San Antonio de Areco

Welcome to my hometown, San Antonio de Areco. If you want to get to know a bit about Argentina’s history and traditions, this is it. This small and picturesque town is located less than 120 km away from the City of Buenos Aires, in the heart of ‘Argentina’, and it’s perfect for a weekend getaway. ‘Areco’ (like we locals call it) was founded in 1730 and you can still see 18th-century architecture and even run into a couple ‘gauchos’ on your way to the main square. Here’s a quick guide to help you get started.

Nueva Cordoba

This is the neighborhood where all the University students live in when they come to study to Cordoba, from all over Argentina and other countries. Cordoba has the oldest University in South America, with over 400 years. It was founded by the Jesuitical religious order, during colonial times. This grants our University with great prestige worldwide. And we are proud to say it’s public and free.

5 things I learned from traveling around Argentina

When we first arrived in Argentina, my boyfriend and I had a plan to stay for only 2 months. The initial idea was to backpack from Cordoba (center of the country) to the North, and then head South to Patagonia. But we had such an immersive experience, that those 2 months turned into 4.

Argentina: three cities to visit in Patagonia

Patagonia region goes from the provinces of Neuquén to Tierra del Fuego, in the south of Argentina, where you can find landscapes such us wet forests, glaciers, lakes and wild fauna at the foot of the Andes mountain range. My husband and I took a plane to Bariloche. We also visit others cities like San Martin de los Andes and Villa La Angostura. Personally speaking, ten days is perfect for visiting this part of the region.

Sol Liendro

You’ve bought your ticket, now what?

My initial hopes to explore both the southern tip of Patagonia in Argentina as well as the sandy shores of Cartagena in Colombia were scaled back to create a more realistic itinerary. However, I didn’t cut back my trip entirely thanks to some clever purchasing of internal flights. This meant that I avoided several 24hr bus trips (and whole days wasted) and instead opted for a few 2-4hr flights.

Gretel Maltabarow

How did I get to Bocas del Toro

At the middle of the year, I started organizing the trip with my friends. We live in Argentina so we learnt that we needed to get to Panamá city first because there were no direct flights to Bocas del Toro, but when we checked the availability, there were none. One important recommendation to take into account is that if you want to travel to the island by plane make sure to buy your plane tickets early because there are very few flights.

Delfi Maggi

Travelling to the Iguazu Falls

So once upon a time, I’ve decided to get my backpack, and spend my Easter at one of the most beautiful parts of my country, because travelling alone is my passion, and because I had missed so much my “backpacker life”, and because Argentina is beautiful. So, I choose the Iguazu-falls, which are beautiful, enormous waterfalls of the Iguazu River on the border of the Argentine province of Misiones and the Brazilian state of Paraná.  They consist of 270 waterfalls and cataracts varying between 60 to 82 meters. And all in the arms of wonderful subtropical jungles: shared by the Iguazú National Park (Argentina) and Iguaçu National Park (Brazil). The two parks were designated UNESCO World Heritage Sites. So, I am excited, it should be awesome!

Sierras Chicas: Day-Trip Mountain Escape

The Sierras Chicas, along with their larger neighbor the Sierras Grandes, offer a change of pace just outside of the bustling city of Cordoba, Argentina. They can easily be reached and partially explored in a single day. Though if you have time to spare, you might want to pack a tent or book a hostel and spend a couple days and nights climbing in the mountains.

Buenos Aires: A City Like No Other

For anyone that wasn’t already aware (a lot I imagine), this year for me began with an epic 6 week backpacking trip around Argentina and Chile; something my partner (Spanish speaking, yay!) and I had been planning for some time the year before. With family links in both countries, and a gap between jobs, it seemed the only obvious way to pass the time. January 8th came around and we embarked on a journey that would add great photos to our Facebook profile. Oh, and, of course, make us amazing new friends; give us a changed view the world and memories that we’ll never forget.

The Buenos Aires Checklist

Buenos Aires is the capital city of Argentina and it’s one of the most cosmopolitan cities in South America. It blends a wide variety of manifestations to create an amazing mash-up between traditional and modern culture, which you can enjoy in every step you take!

Ongamira: The Secret of Las Sierras, Cordoba

Cordoba, Argentina is a fascinating province in the very heart of the Argeninta. Its capital is most known for being a student city for the many universities and abundant night life it has to offer. It was originally founded by the Jesuits in the early 17th century who founded the first universities and missions in the country. Eventually, Cordoba was given the name La Docta; a Latin term meaning “the trained”.

Living the Argentinean dream in Buenos Aires capital

Argentina has been my dream. Having perfect pictures in my mind of gauchos, vineyards and Latin life. I have to admit that this special liking is partly due to Julia’s tango, a Dutch TV series about four women starting a bed and breakfast in Buenos Aires. It gives you this nice summer vibe because of fluttering dresses, red wine and passionate tango. After dreaming about this country for years I finally had booked my ticket to Buenos Aires. I was excited but also a little bit nervous at the same time. My plan was to go travelling for four months in Argentina by myself. Could this travel fulfill my Argentinean dream?

Where to Eat

Some like to call Buenos Aires the capital of Argentina, or the Latino city that never sleeps. I call it a carnivores paradise.
