Javea: A little gem on the Costa Blanca, Spain

I’ve been fortunate enough to be able to live in Javea (or Xábia to give the town its name in the local Valenciano dialect) for the last two years and it continues to delight me.

Puerto Sagunto; City Beach Town

Puerto Sagunto, Valencia, Spain is a small beach town around 30km away from Spain’s third largest city, Valencia. Puerto Sagunto is the port town of Sagunto. A newer town in Spain established in 1902 when people all over Spain flocked to the area as the town of Sagunt built multiple factories creating jobs for many jobless Spaniards. Today, Puerto Sagunto is a popular summer destination for Spaniards seeking a relaxing day by the seaside. Puerto Sagunto is lined with a 1.2km white sanded beach with multiple restaurants, cafes, and parks.

6. NO flamenco shows in Barcelona

I had already seen a flamenco show in Valencia but my boyfriend hadn’t. So, it was added in our “to do list” and we looked for one but it was shocking: the shows were as long as the one in Valencia, but the price was twice as much that. Therefore, we opted for the cheapest one and, though it was fascinating, it was a bit disappointing. Better see the next show in Andalusia!

Valencia: Fine mixture of student paradise and cultural treasure

Valencia, often and repeatidly shaded by Barcelona or Madrid, is definetly in the top five Spanish travel destinations and it is the absolute winner among the destinations for student exchange. Being a capital of Comunidad Valenciana it offers a mixture of impressive architecture, long sandy beaches, groovy nightlife and inspiring cultural heritage.

What’s going on?

Spain is formed by 17 autonomous regions, all very different and diverse. Few of these regions, besides the Spanish language, have another co-official languages – Basque in the Basque country and northern Navarra; Galician in Galicia; Aranese in the Pyrenean area of the Aran Valley;  and Catalan in Catalonia, the Balearic Islands, and as a variant (Valencian) in Valencia – but, in spite of boasting a people rich in culture and tradition and potentiate the diversity the country has, the Spanish government has always feared the differences.

Practicalities:

As the capital city of the southern region of Andalusia, Seville is easily accessible by road and public transport and has an airport, train station and bus station. The train station is also served by the high-speed AVE line. In my case, I took an AVE train one-way from Valencia to Seville for 50€ (this may seem expensive but it is a good fare in Spain) which took about 3hours 50 minutes. Within the city, I would advise taking the bus or going everywhere on foot rather than using the limited metro network. In terms of accommodation, as a solo traveller/backpacker there for three nights, The Nomad Hostel was ideal. It is a small, modern hostel located on a quiet street in the old city centre with excellent facilities; large, airy rooms, clean bathrooms and a comfortable lounge. Moreover, they have a tasty organic breakfast available, free wifi, their own ‘SLOW’ philosophy and helpful, pleasant staff.

How to become a “local” in Valencia?

La Comunidad Valenciana in Spain is a region south of Catalunya, south of Barcelona. Although we might know some stereotypes about Spanish people, Valencians will prove most of them wrong…well, not all, but it’s still a nice surprise. Provided that you are not going in the hottest time of the year (late July and August) when the city is basically empty, you will have the best time if you follow the below steps, trust me!

My Exciting Trip To Valencia Or All The Troubles Of Getting There

Birthday in Spain (Valencia)

Spain is amazing and more so, Valencia. As one of my favorite places to visit, I would like to share my point of view and my birthday experience with you all. First of all, you should know that people there are warm and will help you with anything you need, meaning you do not have to know Spanish perfectly. Also, they make different types of parties so you will never be bored. If you need to know how to get around and not get lost, follow my advice and save money and time.

Valencia! Spain's hidden gem

When you think of a trip to Spain the usual places always pop up.. Barcelona.. Madrid.. maybe even Ibiza for you party people out there; well I’m here to tell you Valencia is the place to be! Now I could try to convince you by telling of how the city is steeped in historical culture or how beautiful the beaches are, which is all true, but in my honest opinion the same could be said of pretty much every coastal town/city along the Mediterranean. The true beauty of Valencia is in its hidden charm, its strong cultural traditions and its people.

San Sebastián: An Foodie Paradise in the Basque Country

When you think about Spain, what are the first places that come to mind? Let me guess—I bet you thought of Madrid, Barcelona, and maybe even Valencia or Seville. Well, that’s hardly surprising. Those are indeed the largest cities in Spain, after all. Let’s move away from these major cities in Spain and go north, into Basque Country (known as Pais Vasco in Spanish).
