Things to see and do while backpacking in Dublin, Ireland.

Check out tips from other travellers and bloggers and their experiences in Dublin, Ireland.

If you're already planning to visit Dublin, Ireland - scroll to the next section for a list of the best places to stay.

Where to eat after

Kennedy’s is one of the places that offer Irish food and drink, including Irish Coffee, and breakfast made of livers on the Bloomsday, the huge holiday based on Ulysses. The plot of Ulysses takes part on 16 of July in various places in Dublin, so as you’ve probably already guessed, the Bloomsday takes place on 16 July. There are events all around the city, in the Sandycove tower where James Joyce lived with two of his friend, the steam train with traditional food can take you on the way along the coast, and you can see people dressed up all around the city.

Mawage. Mawage is wot bwings us togeder today. Mawage, that bwessed awangment, that dweam wifin a dweam.

So yes, I’m a Harry Potter Fan, but come on, who my age isn’t????  It was a brilliant day to visit the Cliffs of Moher.  They were fabulous and the views were amazing.  It wasn’t windy (thank God!) and there was no rain (surprise, surprise!) but a little hazy. So unfortunately we weren’t able to see some of the things that you can on a clear day (the three islands, the bay, etc.) but it was still fantastic.  I would go again in a heartbeat.  You can hike for hours there and it would be an amazing picnic spot.  You can take many different tour companies to get there, like Paddywagon or Dublin Tour Company.  We took Dublin Tour Company and our bus driver/guide Angie was amazing!  She had us laughing and learning quite a bit about the Irish Countryside and lore on our way to the Cliffs.

Maynooth:Little Town in the outskirts of Dublin, Co. Kildare

The land of the leprechauns, or as others prefer to call it, the Emerald Isle, is a must have in your ‘To visit’ list. Do not get too anxious about the Irish weather, is not always cloudy in Ireland! Anyway, who will be bothered by a tiny raindrop or two? If you are planning a trip to this beautiful country, you have probably found out what to do in Dublin, Galway ,Cork or even in Limerick. Well, that’s not all folks! If you have a flexible schedule, I wouldn’t leave without visiting Maynooth. Maynooth is a ‘little’ (is what it might seems at the beginning) town located in the outskirts of Dublin, in County Kildare. Once you’ve put your feet in there, you’ll immediately transport yourself to one of those amazing scenarios you’ve seen so many times in movies. A gorgeous town with a lovely main street full of shops and places where you can eat, but still quiet enough to just walk around lost in your senses. It is certainly a different place to visit and its magical environment will captivate you in a second. But hold on, there’s more!

Where to eat

To eat we went to Bistro Bianconi and caught their brilliant early bird menu for a truly delicious meal. Although it is an Italian restaurant it has a fairly broad menu with something for everyone – more than just pizzas and pastas. With the 3 course menu for under 20 euro it really was fabulous food and beat some big name Dublin restaurants I have visited recently hands down. It is also large and spacious and beautifully decorated with Italian frescoes on the walls throughout. Cannot recommend it highly enough.

Drinking in Dublin and listening to live music

As I love drinking tasty cocktails TGI FRIDAYS have a good range of cocktails and good bar staff. I go there when I am in town doing some staff and just tired and want to go for a cocktail. They have this amazing cosmopolitan with cotton candy which tastes so amazing that I would recommend to go. If you are looking to have friendly stuff I would recommend TGI FRIDAYS in Stevens green. Not only you can drink cocktails, beer and shots you can order food and have drinks and food which is a very good combination. If you are going with your boyfriend and your boy wants to watch some football but you are in the mood for food and cocktails that is the place to go. Food is a bit expensive but delicious and no arguing with your boy over this. Drinking in Dublin and listening to live music

From the biggest parties of Ibiza to one of the smallest villages in Ireland

Eyeries a pretty small village in the very west of Ireland, directly next to the atlantic ocean. It took me 3 hours of flight from Bratislava (Slovakia) to Dublin (Ireland) then another 3 hours with the bus from Dublin to Cork and there the dad of the kids who I suppose to mind come to pick me up so from there it took us 2 more hours to get to my ”Narnia”. The kids were happy that I am back again so the parents.

Getting there is easy and it’s well communicated with the centre of Dublin so eventhough you don’t have a private transport, it’s still possible to arrive by public transport, here you can find a list of the possibilities to get there.

Dublin: Beer, Cheer and some Green

As a hungarian student, I am proud to say that I got to live in this beautiful place for 3 months, and oh, still I dream about the colorful streets, the hidden alleyways and the soft green grass in Dublin. This is a little inside tip collection for those who want to discover the capital of Ireland-The Green Emerald. So as the first part of my Ireland series, I collected you a few mainstream, but also some inside tips for your trip to the capital of Ireland. The home of James Joyce has a wide scale of sightseeing attractions to offer for the cultured and the curious. Dublin is a very small city, with an even smaller centre that is easy to get to know and discoverable by foot. Hereby I planned a little tour for you that will take you to the most important sights and I highly recommend you to take this little walk, especially when it’s sunny! ( I would say it is, most of the time, but predicting irish weather is like trying to guess the Lotto numbers. )

Csinszka Bene

How to get there?

As a solo traveler, my choices were to rent a car or book a tour at Paddywagon. Since I didn’t want to take my chances behind the wheel driving on a side that I’m not used to, I looked up for Paddywagon options. It’s one of the most famous tours around Ireland and it has many different options from day tours up to 9 days tours leaving from different cities. At the time, I choosed the 2 day tour leaving from Dublin to Belfast and The Giant’s Causeway with the driver as a guide telling you amazing stories about Ireland and traditional Irish music all along the way.

Torisa Kao

Going it Alone

My experience is like so many others, except I was too impoverished to do the Asia part. All I could afford, was a lot of hope and a one way ticket from Dublin to Syndey. I will never change my journey. I sincerely believe that our life’s path happens exactly the way it is supposed to. We are the makers of our own destiny and all those other cliché sayings, and I made my choices, because at the time they were the right things for me to do. Now settled in the Northern Territory, I find myself constantly reviving memories of my beginnings in Australia, and the euphoria I felt every time I did something that was so foreign in comparison to my old life. Little things, like going to the beach on a Saturday and seeing the Opera house for the first time were events that will be forever treasured. Eventually though, that life buzz started to fade and I began to get itchy feet. Perhaps I was premature in my boredom; I am a commitment phobe by nature; if I could have been born an inanimate object, it would have been a balloon so I could float away. I am a loner in the least weird sense, so if there was no job and boyfriend, I would happily pack a bag, ditch the phone and get lost in the world.

Ireland: Glendalough & The Wicklow Mountains

If you are planning a trip to Dublin, Ireland, it would be worth your while to look into touring Glendalough & The Wicklow Mountains.

Jennifer Latchford

A walk around Dublin sipping a Guinness

Dublin is one of the places I love the most in the entire world! I’d wanted to go there since I was a little girl and I saw an episode of Chip’n’Dale Rescue Rangers set in Ireland in which the two chipmunks were helping the last leprechaun retrieve his pot full of gold. (Here’s the link if you feel like watching it: Chip’n’Dale Rescue Rangers The last Leprechaun). I really wanted to go to Ireland and find my personal leprechaun! My mom eventually convinced me I could find one in our garden so I decided to give up on my Irish trip. Time passed by and I grew up, I didn’t believe in Leprechauns anymore, but I still wanted to visit Ireland, Dublin in particular, so I did. The first time I went there was a couple of years ago, I spent a nice weekend with some friends and totally fell in love with the city. Since then I’ve been to Dublin four more times, good thing I have a friend who lets me crash at her place whenever I ask (and I ask A LOT). Since she works, I usually end up wandering around the city by myself and, I must confess, I enjoy taking my time to just walk around listening to music. I never feel lonely, I always discover something new and come back more in love with this city than I was before.

Getting around Cork

If you’ve already seen Dublin and tasted the sweet-bitter-Guinness like urban life meaning Temple Bar, visited the list of museums (pubs) and listened for a 100 times the Molly Malone song, only then you’re ready to leave Dublin for a new adventure. You need a bit of fresh air this time, so look no further than Cork where an oasis of the wildlife is waiting for you and I’m not talking about the city it’s self. No, there’s a region there about 20 min away from Cork called Fota Wildlife, huge shelter for animals allover the world and a marvelous place to spend a day away from the city.

Dublin: the best spots

Dublin, also known as the Big Smoke is one of my favorite place on Earth for several reasons: live music, cobblestone streets, pubs and Irish people with their lovely Irish accent. I have lived in Dublin for a year while I was studying for my final year of Bachelor’s degree at University College Dublin and if I had to choose a place to settle, it would probably be there. This city is unique. Even though the place is the capital of the Republic of Ireland, it feels like a small city. In this article, I would like to introduce you to my three favorite districts.

Welcome to Dublin, the heart of the Emerald Isle

Baile Átha Cliath, commonly known as Dublin, is the capital of the Republic of Ireland as well as the most populated and richest city of the Emerald Isle. Economically speaking, Dublin has seen considerable development in the last two decades that made this marvellous city become the heart of the whole country. And if you are thinking about moving to a place where joy and culture are well mixed together, Dublin is certainly the perfect city for you!

Getting your Nature Fix in Dubin

If you have ever thought of traveling to Dublin or even if you’re exploring there now, I hope that you’re already familiar with some of the well-known spots in town. Places like Grafton Street, Temple Bar, the Guinness Storehouse and Dublin Castle are all well-traveled and rightly so. They embody much of the city life that has made Dublin famous worldwide for history and culture, perfecting the art of drinking and live music shows every night of the week. Dublin is an amazing city to get to know and I’ll never have enough time to explore this town.

Budget Travel Guide: 5 Free Things to Do in Dublin

Can You Explore Dublin on a Budget? If you’ve ever visited Dublin, you know that it’s one of the most exciting cities in Europe-and it’s also one of the most expensive! As a grad student living in Ireland’s capital, I’ve had to learn how to have fun on a tight student budget. It can seem like a major challenge at times. Going out to eat is a luxury, I often have to walk instead of taking the bus (and forget about shelling out money for a cab), and heading to the pub for a pint or two can easily leave you with an empty wallet.
