If you think Tenerife is just clubs, bars, and all-inclusive resorts then you are completely wrong.
However, you should step out of your luxury hotels and explore this incredible Island.
Tenerife is considered to be the most populated island on the seven Canary Islands and it is situated north of the Tropic Cancer, taking a central position between the rest of the Canary Islands of Gran Canaria, La Gomera and La Palma.
Weather is always perfect in Tenerife (19°C- 30°C).
In 2016, August, we decided to take a romantic honeymoon trip to Tenerife. We enjoyed the weather, tasty seafood, happy people and of course the WONDERFUL places in Tenerife.
I have put together top 11 things to do in Tenerife.
So, have a good read!
Enjoy the Beach
If you have come for the sunshine, my number one recommendation would be to enjoy the brilliant beach. And if you are staying in Los Cristianos, means everything is at your doorstep, so no need to travel too far, especially when the sun is out.
Explore the Sea
The next thing you need to do while in Tenerife is get out on a boat. The sea goes all the way round of the island and there are so many chances to find the dolphin spotting. It is slightly touristy but it is just amazing. There are so many excursions available for a boat trip. If you are feeling more adventurous, there are plenty of opportunities to go scuba diving as well.
For cultural breakfast, travel to Santa Cruz which is the capital of Tenerife Island. This is where you will find museums and shopping malls. It is a little less touristy but you can still find cafes and shops to enjoy, just with a little less English speaking people. So be prepared. 😉
The next three sightseeing places can actually all be done in only one day with a hired car. Heading West from the South, you’ll end up in Masca. This is the spot where you definitely need a camera as this is really a breathtaking place with stunning valleys and views.
Following the road, you will end up in Garachico. This is one of the oldest villages on the island. It is extremely pretty and a perfect place to stop for a lunch with the views that will take your breath away.
Saying goodbye to Garachico and the road will start going from West to East. And if you follow this road, you will end up in Icod.
Here you can see the oldest tree on the island and also they used to say it is the oldest tree in the world, but now I am not quite sure about this but anyway it is definitely worth a stop off on your way back home.
The Anaga Mountains are in the North East part of Tenerife Island. This is the greenest part of the island covered with forests. If you are fond of walking and hiking then this is definitely for you.
Somewhere in Spain, you can find “endless” festivals, and if you are lucky enough to be on Tenerife Island when there is a local fiesta, then my advice would be to get in and take part. You will have a lot of fun and an unforgettable time. No need to worry, it is 100% completely safe.
Loro Parque is situated in Puerto de la Cruz and it is considered to be one of the most touristy places with amazing attractions in the Canary Islands.
I am sure you have attended many Zoos, but this one is a MUST. Here you can find the most incredible and distinctive animals in the globe. And, in fact, it has been recognized as number 1 best zoo park in Europe.
Initially the park was dedicated to parrots only, but the park has already been expanded and it became a room to a diverse range of different animals such as birds, whales, sea lions, tigers, chimpanzees, alligators.
There are also bunch of other attractions which include an aquarium, a jungle area, children’s play zone an so on.
This is the place where I enjoyed the most. Yes, this is rather touristy, but it is actually recognized as number 1 water park in the world. I have been only once in Siam Park and can surely promise that it is definitely worth its price of a ticket.
One of the most unforgettable experiences that I got from Siam Park’s attractions was the highest one called “Tower Power” at the end of which you will find yourself in a big aquarium with dangerous sharks and rays ready to attack. At the entrance the sea lions are waiting for you. Only one day spent at the Siam Park will be a great experience for you full of mixed emotions and it definitely will be printed in your memories. This is the park full of unique attractions that only Tenerife offers.
Teide National Park
Teide National Park is simply a MUST do! It is something that will bring you back time and time again. And here is a secret that not everyone knows about this place. The National Park of Tenerife is 3000 m above the sea level. So visit from December to February and you will find a usual desert-like landscape transformed into a winter wonderland. If you get to the top of the mountains on a sunny day, you will see the breathtaking all seven Canary Islands.
I think that after reading my travel guide you will tell yourself one word “variety”. And you will be quite right. On this island you can find different climate zones, a huge diversity of landscapes, many cultural places and of course, uncountable attractions. There are so many things to do in Tenerife that it is hard for you to decide which one to choose first. I hope that this neat article will help you to plan your excursions much easier and most importantly you will not miss the most fantastic places of Tenerife.
