Exploring MG Road:

After a warm welcome, we walked to M.G. Road, a one stop place for shopping and bingeing.  There are 2 metro stations to reach here, the M.G. road station and the Trinity station. M.G. Road stands for Mahatma Gandhi Road. One of the busiest roads in the city, it is lined with shops and restaurants on one side. The Karnataka emporium is situated here. This shop offers a range of the local commodities like Silk Sarees, Mysore Sandal soaps, incense sticks, dhoop, oils, cosmetics, ornaments and so on.

Ready Steady Go:

I have to go to Mysore from Bengaluru. There is frequent bus services also. But as I have motion sickness, I always prefer to travel by train. So my ticket was confirmed in advance from Bengaluru to Mysore. But I missed my train because my previous train got delayed by 30 mins.

What to see in Bangalore?

Bangalore Palace: This is a gorgeous palace which was completed as recently as 1944. This belongs to the Mysore royal family. It’s really a sight to behold.

The Udipi Culture

‘Udipi’ is a place in South India. While the food has nothing to do with the place, it is believed that the gentleman who brought this food to Mumbai, in order to make a living, belonged to that town. Ever since, the all-day-eateries that serve south Indian breakfast and snacks are called ‘Udipis’ in Mumbai. Yes, the food they serve is South Indian but is served Mumbai style; tweaked, twisted and mixed up to create our own flavour. All Udipis serve pure vegeterian food, tables are available on sharing basis, the do’s and don’ts are longer than items on the menu and service is quick but not always friendly. Do not get intimidated, it is an experience. I would recommend at least one breakfast at an Udipi joint. Menu Highlights: Dosa (Rice Crepes), Idli (steamed rice cake), Upma (semolina cooked with vegetables), Medhu vada (deep fried rice cake), Pineapple Sheera (sweetened semolina), filter coffee. You’ll find variants of each on the menu, ask another local guest in the restaurant for recommendations to suit your palate. Places to hit: Cafe Madras, Right opposite King Circle Garden, Matunga East Cafe Mysore (My Pick), Right opposite King Circle Garden Ram Ashray, Near Matunga Central Railway Station Manis: Near Matunga Central Railway Station (a small hole in the  wall that is very easy to miss)

MASINAGUDI-BANDHIPUR.....THE LAND OF RAVING WILDLIFE

After slogging for months like a maniac at workplace, me and my husband decided to take a break from the mundane  jungles of city life and visit the evergreen jungles somewhere. After quite a lot of search and discussion, we decided to go to masinagudi since it was a distance  which can be easily covered by car from our place-chennai. There are two routes to reach masinagudi from chennai. One is via mettupalayam-ooty  and the other is via mysore-bangalore both of which comes to about 600km. We decided to go via mysore-banglore just so we can enjoy the lush greenery enroute to masinagudi-bandipur.
