How to get to McLeod Ganj

Well before reaching McLeod gang you need to get to Dharamshala.  Dharamshala is accessible through air, buses, and cars .The nearest airport available is Gaggal Airport which is 13 Km away from Dharamshala. You will need to hire a taxi to McLeod Ganj from Gaggal.  Though the air services for Dharamshala may not be available from all cities in India, but you can get one from New Delhi. Volvo Buses are available till McLeod Ganj.   You can book them online through Make My trip / Red Bus. In case there is no direct bus to Mcleod Ganj from your area. You can book a bus to Dharamshala and then you can hire a taxi or local buses are also available. We  planned a road trip from Chandigarh to McLeod Ganj and  went all the way exploring  Kangra Fort, Dharamshala Cricket  Stadium  and  paying homage to  Chintpurni Mata , Brijeshwari Mata  temple on the way back .

Getting there

Kheerganga is a very small village, to which you would have to do a 13 km trek through dense coniferous forests. To get to Kheerganga, you will have to take a bus to Manali from Chandigarh since there is no direct bus to Kheerganga. You will have to deboard at Bhuntar, a small village before Kullu. From Bhuntar, you need to take a local bus to Kasol or Manikaran, which generally takes about an hour to reach Manikaran. In Manikaran, you will take a taxi to Barshaini, which is the base for the Kheerganga trek. Also, Barshaini is the base for the trek to Tosh, which is just 2-3 kilometres from there and the Mantalai lake which is actually a 6-day trek one way. Mantalai lake is the origin of the Parvati river.

Mcloedganj - Abundance of Natural Beauty

In year 2015, I decided to travel solo in my own country India. What could have been the better option than Mcloedganj so I packed my bags & headed towards Mcloedganj? I had taken a flight till Chandigarh & from there public buses go regularly to Mcloedganj. Throughout my journey, I felt lost in its beautiful hilly roads. It will take you to some magical world where there is only Peace, Love & Happiness in everyone’s eyes. When I reached Mcloedganj in the morning around 6 o’clock, weather was so frizzy & amazing. As soon as I got down from the bus I headed towards Bhagsu waterfall to relax my mind as it’s so pleasant one can spend his/her whole time at Bhagsu waterfall. Then after spending some quality time I came to Jimmy’s cafe to have my breakfast. I still can feel the taste of its mouth-watering yummy food. After a heavy breakfast I took a cab till base camp of Triund hills from where trekkers start their trek. My luggage was the major drawback of my whole trek so I highly suggest one should carry fewer luggages while trekking. You should always carry enough water so that you can save money as on top water is more expensive. I made so many new friends during my trek as I was alone exploring. It was a moderate trek but as I trekked for the 1st time I found it difficult as one should be fit for trekking otherwise it becomes very tiring. I trekked till Triund & spent a night under the star shining sky. Amazing sunrise made me fall in love with Mcloedganj. After spending a day, I trekked down to explore Tibetan markets & some more Israeli cafe. After discovering beautiful corners of Mcloedganj I realized one thing how travelling help us to except people across the world. Here I am suggesting few spots to visit in Mcloedganj which will help you to discover more.

Mcleodganj: Transforming tourists into travellers

Situated in Kangra district of Himachal Pradesh just about 15 km from Dharamshala at the height of 2082 metres (6831 feet), Mcleodganj is undoubtedly one of the best hill stations in India. Owing to the large population of Tibetans, Mcleodganj is also known as “Little Lhasa”. The most prominent and exceptional feature of Mcleodganj that you wouldn’t find in any other Indian hill station is the cleanliness despite being popular amongst tourists and pretty densely populated. Having Kangra Airport at about an hour’s distance that provides the town with air connectivity to only Delhi and Chandigarh (March 2018 onwards) and the Pathankot Railway Station as the nearest broad gauge railway station which is about two and a half hour from Mcleodganj makes the roadway the best means of conveyance. No matter where you are coming from, the bus journey remains the most convenient option as it saves time, effort, money and possible nausea. Both State transport buses and private luxury buses regularly run between Mcleodganj and other major Indian cities like Delhi, Chandigarh, Manali, Karnal, Ambala etc. However, if you don’t have an itinerary to stick to and are looking forward to getting off the trail and making your trip more about the journey than the destination, then take a car.
