This started out as an article about ten reasons why you should go to Australia, and there are numerous of reasons why. Then I thought to myself some of these reasons that I first came up with are very talked about and known. So what I wanted to focus on wasn’t the obvious reasons like the opera house, the Great Barrier Reef, Uluru, kangaroos and so on. I wanted to focus on less talked about reasons why this is the place to go.
When I first came toAustralia I didn’t really know what to expect, but coming here has been one of the best decisions of my life, and in this article i want to share with you why you should go here one day, and if there is one place in the world you really wan to go I urge you to do so, because it will be the best thing you have ever done and you have nothing to lose.
To be honest there is probably hundreds of reasons why you should go to Australia, it is a country with similarities to Europe, but it feels so different, it has its own charm and chillness about it, it is all about the no worries and cheers. And I have lost count a long time ago over all the people I have met who have come here and actually ended up moving here or at least doing everything in their power to stay here.
Without a doubt the main reason why I love Australia so much is the culture. Not only the fact that it is such a chill place, but most importantly that you find people from all the corners of the world, leaving me with friends from all over, and so many new places to visit. When you meet people from different countries and backgrounds you also learn a lot of new things, you get to try new food, you might start learning a new language. And for me I appreciate the thing and opportunities I have a lot more. Gaining friends and meeting people that are from so many different countries and cultures has brought me so much understanding, happiness, respect and appreciation for what I have, but it has also made me want to learn more, to speak more languages and to see so many more countries.
With so many people from all over the world, you also get amazing food, and in the cities you can more or less have everything your heart desires, except from brunost, or brown cheese which is a norwegian thing i haven’t been able to find yet unfortunately. Coming from a place where the takeaway food you get mostly consist of pizza, it is so refreshing to have the opportunity to choose between so many different cuisines from all over the world.
Furthermore what I love about this country as I mentioned above, is the chillness. Obviously you have to work to earn a living, but they are just more relaxed here, or at least that is how I experienced it traveling here. However when you are traveling somewhere you usually have the resources to live a more relaxed lifestyle, but there is still something very chill about this country. It is hard to describe, but there just more of a general understanding that life should be enjoyed as well, and I don’t notice the same chase for perfection and success as in Europe.
Though I could obviously just write a paragraph about nature and scenery, the Whitsunday islands are reason enough to go to Australia, because it is just so incredibly beautiful. Yes, I know it is a part of the Great Barrier Reef. It is without a doubt one of the most amazing places I have ever been to, and there are hips of different ways of staying and going there, from one day boat trips to luxury resorts. If heaven was a place on earth, and I believed in heaven, this would be it. As if the islands and surroundings weren’t beautiful enough, to top it off you have Whitehaven beach. Consisting mostly of silica, it is so white and fine and the water is so clear, pictures can’t justify the beauty of this place. It is also an excellent snorkeling spot, where you’ll see beautiful corals. Suddenly you’ll find yourself in a stream of fish, see Dory, feel a bit bad that i don’t know the actual name of this fish. It is also a great place to spot turtles, and if you are lucky you might even get to spot dolphins, though they are more common further south.
TimTam and lamington, and maybe even Vegemite
You can without a doubt find some interesting food in Australia, like kangaroo and crocodile meat, and this really wired spread called vegemite, witch aussies for some reason seem to love, I understand why, because that has to be one of the most disgusting things i have tasted in my life, but it is still worth a try just to test it out. It is a aussie thing that I still don’t really understand. They do have some good food as well, or more like good desserts called TimTam and lamington. After I had TimTams the first time i literally got obsessed, I am pretty sure I ate a pack a day, at least. I thought it was the best thing on the planet. I think everyone gets obsessed with them at some point, and what is not to love, chocolate biscuits filled with chocolate in the middle and then covered in more chocolate, or you can get them with caramel or espresso martini, the options are endless. One thing you should try is biting of the ends, then put it in a cup of coffee or tea and sucking it like a straw. It melts from the inside, and it is absolutely delicious. Then you have Lamington, just thinking of one makes me want to go bay one. It is not to heavy, and it is great with a cup of coffee.
Australia is in general a country that has a lot to offer, whether you like being out in the nature, going hiking, diving, skiing or you are a city person or maybe something in the middle or none of the above. That is what makes it a great country. Being here you will meet so many people from all over the world, that will open your perspectives and let you grow, but that is what traveling dose to you regardlessly. If what you are in to is relaxing on the beach you can do that, but if you would rather do something action filled or simply go shopping you can do that as well. I think the main reason you should go to Australia is the culture and diversity. Furthermore the opportunity to literally do anything you can come up with, because this country more or less has it all, maybe except from freezing cold winters and to be honest I don’t really miss that.
