Qatar National Library:

The Qatar national library is not a boring, ordinary library. It is a masterpiece of architecture, which is located in “Qatar Foundation”, an area housing most of the cities top universities.  Visit this air – conditioned marvel during the hot times of the day. Souq Waqif:

This “souq” is an absolute must-visit place if you are here for a day! I loved the aromas of the perfumes and variety of cuisines that pleased my senses! Souq Waqif literally translates into “standing market”. In this you will find a maze of stalls, where local shopkeepers sell all kinds of cookware including utensils, spoons, and the dallah which is the traditional Arabic coffee pot. You will find yourself lost among the variety of footwear to the beautiful traditional shawls. When you are here do not forget to visit the arabic bakeries and sweet shops to give your tongue a treat. When it comes to cuisine there’s almost no cusine you cannot find at the souq waqif. From Indian to Italian, to Lebanese and Iranian you will experience a mixture of cultures in Souq Waqif. You will also find this to be among the top visited places for tourists in Doha, especially for sheesha. When here i recommend trying “Damasca one” a Syrian Restaurant which has amazing interiors, and the performances gave me a feeling of Syrian culture.

When you are here, do ask the locals for the “Falcon souq” , a must visit , since it’s located close to Souq Waqif.

I personally found this place to be the perfect place for photography. Make sure you give this place enough time to get yourself lost in.

Important: Make sure you check the temperature before you go here, since its mostly only open air and it can be very hot in the day!

Katara cultural village:

This little village set-up situated in West bay lagoon area of Doha, is a must-visit to experience Arabian culture and arts. Art workshops are conducted here in this cosy village. It is situated closely to “The Pearl” which is a man-made Island, spanning 4 million square metres, a must-visit! Do not forget to see the famous Pearl Monument of Doha, when you’re here! You can choose to indulge in a variety of cuisines from armenian to lebanese to indian in this cultural village. When here, enjoy the serenity of Katara beach. Buggies are available to transport you within this area. Katara taxis are also available for drop to your place of stay.

City center:

One of the most happening places in Doha, this mall is situated in the West Bay area and houses most of the international Brands, from ice-creams to footwear to fancy clothes and the best smelling perfumes. You could catch up on the current movie at the theatre here, munch on your favourite food and do some leftover shopping !

Among other places to see are The museum of islamic art, Villagio mall, Katara Beach

Best places to eat in Doha

This beautiful city of Doha has extensive restaurants and cafes’ , almost a foodie’s paradise! You will find any cuisine you wish, from Indian to thai , pure seafood restaurants to cafes’. As you must be aware i would recommend the “Souq Waqif” as you get to choose your favourite cuisine within the area. In the evening i would recommend a stroll along the beautiful Al corniche , a waterfront promenade that extends for 7 kms. The corniche ends at an air-conditioned costa cafe’ with restrooms and tasty snacks.

I recommend  “Dean and David” for their tasty Thai curries and an ambience you will love. Eat away at : Porto Arabia Drive, Sidra Hospital and Al Dafna.

With ” Bombay Chowpatty” located in the West bay area, a chat corner which serves authentic indian chat from pani puris to parathas, I didn’t get a chance to miss home.

Other Indian restaurants i recommend include: “Aalishan” in Al Muntazah , “Saravana Bhavan” in Al Mahar st. and  “Saffron” in Katara cultural village.

Things to do in Doha

With Doha being one of the richest countries of the world, it is very well organised, with the most well behaved citizens following all the rules set by the Country. Then skyscrapers of Doha, form a must-see skyline especially when they are lit up during the evenings. A lazy walk in the evenings is by itself a very pleasant sight to  the eyes.

If you are here during the Ramadan month i recommend you to try the iftaar and suhoor.

Around the evening, take a long stroll or enjoy a picnic in Aspire park, located in Aspire Zone. It covers an area of 88 hectares, and is Doha’s biggest park. It overlooks the beautiful Aspire Tower.

For children, visit Gondolania, a luxe amusement park in the villagio mall with rides, gondola boats, ice skating, go-karts & a 4D theater.

Jungle Zone, an Indoor, jungle-themed amusement center for kids contains thrill rides, slides & arcade games, located in Al-waab.

If you have never been to an indoor trampoline park, do visit “bounce” located in Al Markhiya Street, Al Duhail South in Tawar Mall Doha, the largest in the Middle-east! Good news is they welcome children and adults all the same!

Tips to remember: Be updated on the temperature of Doha to completely enjoy this city to the fullest! Always carry a bottle of water( if it’s not Ramadan) and your high SPF sunscreen.
