Gurudwara Bangla Sahib
Gurudwara Bangla Sahib is the most important Sikh house of worship. It is known for its association with the eighth Sikh Guru, Guru Har Krishan. This is exactly the place for people looking for peace and positivity.
After entering the gurudwara complex, the first thing you have to do is to deposit your shoes at the shoe counter. Then you wash your hands and cover your head with a piece of cloth before entering the main premises of the gurudwara. In a gurudwara, it is mandatory for all to cover their heads all the time. Before climbing the stairs to the main shrine, there will be a puddle of water with running supply of water. Gently place your feet in it and your feet will be washed. As you walk into the main shrine, you see the Guru Granth Sahib in the centre of the shrine, being worshipped. People go ahead and bow down in front of it, pray for their dear ones and ask for whatever they want. Then they find a comfortable spot to sit down and experience the bliss and peace. The atmosphere here is so tranquil and homely, that you can sit here for hours together, be listening to the devotional songs being played live and hum to their tune or just sit and meditate. You will feel a strange kind of mesmerisation at the grandeur of the gurudwara and automatically find yourself meditating.
Inside the gurudwara complex, outside the shrine, there is also a pool of water, known as ‘sarovar’. The water in it is known as ‘amrit’. Do take a walk around it and sprinkle some water over your head. Don’t forget to collect Prasad after this. They give halva as Prasad and it is really very tasty. After this, you can head to eat at the langar which is organised by the gurudwara at specific timings. Eating at the langar is said to be must if you visit here. They serve delicious dal, chapatti, sabzi and kheer.
