DISCOVER YOUR HIDING PLACE
Tourists flock over Philippines’ summer capital at any season of the year because of its cool temperature and superb scenery. Every day is a busy day in the city with more and more students enjoying academic life and an increasing population of residents choosing to live in this mountainous area because of its comfortable weather.
Indeed, we all want a perfect hideaway from the hustle and bustle of our ever busy lives. Baguio City remains to be a relaxing retreat for everyone. If you want some peace of mind, you will get what you need here.
So, if you happen to be in the City of Pines or you are looking for a destination where you can just be calm, here are some of the most peaceful spots to spend a relaxing time alone or with family and friends. There are actually a lot of places to visit, but I have listed some of my favorite retreats.
VIEW FROM THE HOME
Every house, hotel, and accommodation in the city surely have a picturesque view especially when it is located on top of the hill or mountain. Stand on the veranda or the porch and you will be astonished how perfectly an urban life and a rural life meet in one place. At night, you can see the stars clearly while being amazed by the city lights as well. In the morning, the fog will embrace you while the rain will greet you mostly in the afternoon.
Here is a view from my home where I usually spend some time to think.
COFFEE, AND MORE COFFEE
Locals here are coffee lovers. And more than the perfect blend of cappuccino is the heart-warming hospitality of the people. Whether you come by yourself or with someone special, cafes here are splendid places to refresh you.
When I want to reflect or just want to spend quality time with significant people, I go to coffee shops and sip a cup of coffee alone or with them.
Cafe’s are everywhere. And I can say that they all are the best of their kind. You have a lot of choices. Walk the streets and you will smell an aromatic blend.
THE STOMACH IS ALWAYS THE WAY TO THE HEART
Travelers can never do away with food. At the heart of every journey is a taste of local cuisine. From street foods to fine-dining restaurants, love is served in every bite. If you just want to have a food trip, you can go to Porta Vaga Mall, Burnham Park, local public market or visit the night market along Harrison Road from 9:00 pm to 12 midnight every day.
If you want some “me time” or a moment of serenity or an intimate date with someone or bonding moments with the family you can check these hang-outs. These places are conducive to relaxation, unlike other restaurants in the city which are usually jam-packed and noisy. These are my usual hideaways from the commonplaces in town.

HIKING AND UNWINDING AT MT. CABUYAO AND MT. STO TOMAS
If you want some adventure away from the busy streets of the city, here is the best road to traverse and stretch those muscles a little bit more.
You can ride a public utility jeep from the market going to Mt. Cabuyao or you can bring your own car or ride a taxicab. I suggest you use the public transportation so you can get a feel of real adventure and so that you can take the time to be with the friendly locals. They will guide you, so there’s no problem about getting lost.
When you reach the top you will see the two radars (disc-shaped radio-transmitters), which are famous landmarks there, you can see the whole city laid out perfectly! If you are up for more adventure, you can follow a trail that will lead you to Mt. Sto. Tomas where you can camp, rest, meditate, or light a campfire or stargaze at night. If you are dauntless enough, you can stroll or perhaps crawl down the mountain and trek towards Kennon Road. But don’t do this alone. It is better if you do the trekking as a group. Well, it’s less dangerous that way and it is more fun! It’s your preference anyway.
Or you can just stay on top of the mountain nearby the two radars and experience an exhilarating scenery of this wonderful city while being caught up in the clouds. At night, you can see a canopy of stars hanging brightly in the sky.
My friends and I usually start the adventure at 5 in the morning, reach Mt. Sto. Tomas by 6:30 and have our breakfast there. We will follow the trail, rest for a while, pick up some wild strawberries along the way, camp in the afternoon, stargaze at night and be back to Baguio and sleep after a meaningful day is done.
