The World's Most Eco-Friendly Shoe

A good and reliable shoe can make or break a day out and about for adventures – be it just around your town to buy some groceries or in a completely different place or country in search for priceless stories to bring back home to loved ones and friends.

Did you know?

Did you know that the global footwear industry makes over 23 billion pairs of shoes in a year? That's billion with a letter B. Out of those billions of shoes, only a mere 5% does not somehow end up being in landfills all across the globe. With the various environmental crises getting worse by the minute, such numbers are definitely something we do not want, and frankly, an error we can no longer afford.

Who would have thought that an innovative shoe would have the potential to greatly contribute to environmental and waste issues? Fondly called the world's most eco-friendly shoe, the SOLE x United by Blue Jasper Wool Chukka is the perfect companion for the outgoing, everyday adventurer who is also not ashamed to also be a socially and environmentally conscious individual. Made with passion and with a purpose, this shoe proudly puts eco-friendliness first without sacrificing purpose, durability, comfort, and of course, style.

The Origin and The Composition

The SOLE x United by Blue Jasper Wool Chukka is made out of 6 eco-friendly materials: recycled cork, repurposed bison hair, algae foam, natural rice rubber, merino wool, and bamboo. With these materials, this shoe offers a carbon-negative alternative to harmful foams and plastics usually used in most shoes.

The construction of the world's most eco-friendly shoe began with ReCORK™, North America's largest wine cork recycling program, which made possible the use of 100% post-consumer recycled wine cork broken down and repurposed into sustainable, durable, and flexible consumer products. In the case of the Blue Jasper Wool Chukka, each shoe sole is made of approximately 40 recycled natural wine stoppers. Bisonshield™ Insulation is repurposed bison hair that was previously discarded by the ranching industry is utilized for naturally lightweight and anti-microbial insulation. The upper is made from ethically-sourced merino wool that is breathable, temperature-regulating, and moisture-regulating. Inside the shoe, the footbed is made of algae foam which has 40% less environmental impact as it also eliminates harmful algae from waterways. This insole also has a cork top sheet that is moisture wicking and comfortable to wear with or without socks. Rice rubber is natural rubber strengthened by rice husks. It is used for the grippy, durable outsoles. This natural rubber comes from the sap of the rubber tree and uses 7 times less energy than its petroleum-based counterparts, not to mention, it also naturally buffers CO2 out of the environment. Lastly, the shoe's laces are made of bamboo which takes fewer resources to grow than cotton while also producing less waste.

Not Your Average Shoe

The Jasper Wool Eco Chukka is a shoe that puts the environment first without sacrificing quality, comfort, and style. Coming from materials long searched for and critically developed; conceptualized by hands, minds, and hearts who advocate for environmentally responsible and globally sustainable consumer products, the world's most eco-friendly shoe is an addition to your wardrobe that surely serves so much more purpose than just keeping your feet warm and ready for adventures.
