KNOW THE PLACE
Malaysia : It is a constitutional monarchy located in South-East Asia consisting of 13 states and 3 federal territories. The country is multi-ethnic and multi-cultural. The native language of the people here is Malay with its official religion Sunni Islam and currency Malaysian Ringgit. The head of the state is the king,Yangdi-Pertuan Agong and the head of the government is the prime minister. Kuala Lumpur (KL) is the capital city and the largest administrative city is Putrajaya. KL is the most populous city of Malaysia and is the seat of Parliament of Malaysia.
REACHING KUALA LUMPUR
The best and the easiest way to reach Kuala Lumpur(KL) is via flight. You can chose to land at Changi Airport of Singapore and have a bus ride all the way to KL passing international borders which will take around 6 hours or you can also chose to land at KL airport itself. Another way would be a cruise ride followed by road travel to the city which is a beautiful, breath taking experience.
THINGS TO DO
After arriving at KL, there are a lot of things you can get yourself indulged in. It is one of the most happening places of Southeast Asia and attracts the young and old alike. If you are a shopaholic,Bukit Bintang is the area for you. The Pavilion is the latest and largest shopping mall to open up here. Starhill Gallery is another upmarket shopping center that specializes in luxury and designer brands such as watches, jewellery, fashion and leather good. There is also an art gallery for art lovers and also some of the best restaurants to savour your taste buds. Sungai Wang plaza is more of a “local” shopping center which sells huge varieties of stalls and has some excellent hair and beauty salons. Berjaya Times Square is one of the latest shopping malls that is more suitable for kids shopping and toys.
Next I had the city tour. There are a few beautiful places in the city you can spend time viewing. Istana Negara also known as the King’s Palace is the King’s official residential area. Its a splendid green area with soldiers performing the parade. Though you are not allowed to enter, you can still view the beautiful architecture of the palace from outside and see the hourly changing of guards.
The National Monument also called as Tugu Negara is a sculpture that commemorates the ones who died in Malaysia’s struggle for freedom against the Japanese in WWII and the Malayan Emergency from 1948-1960. Then there comes the Petronas Twin Towers that are the symbol of Malaysia. These majestic towers serve as official buildings. If you want a eye catching beautiful view, visit the towers at night when the towers are lighter up and look like one giant crystal structure. You can also choose to go up the towers and catch a bird’s eye view of the city but there is a long queue to test your patience. But don’t worry, there is another option for you to view the majestic city minus the long queues. KL tower is another attraction that is basically used for communication purpose which also accommodates few shops for shopping and a small zoo. It also provides a bird’s eye view of the city that is breathtaking.
Another attraction, a bit away from the city are the Batu Caves that are giant limestone caves. These caves are dedicated to Lord Murugan. The area also has a giant gold plated statue of Lord Murugan. The way to the temple is a 272 steps climb so better be ready for some hard work before you reach God. It is kind of a ritual that if what you wished for is fulfilled, you come back here to offer your gratitude to God. Just a small warning : BEWARE OF THE MONKEYS while going up the stairs especially if you are carrying some food items. DO NOT OFFER THEM ANYTHING or you will have a hard time getting your stuff back from them.
Another attraction for the hill lovers is Genting Highlands which is around an hour or two drive from the main town. It is basically a hill owned by a chinese which has a resort and indoor theme park. The view atop is beautiful and breathtaking as it is surrounded by clouds and gives a heavenly feeling. It is also known as Resorts World Genting and is mostly famous for its casino which is open 24/7. Besides the casino and theme park, you also have various other options of shopping and dining inside the resorts world. One another fun attraction inside is the Snow World which is a frozen hall at a temperature of around -6 centegrate. Before entering, you are provided with proper jackets, boots and gloves to fully enjoy yourself inside. There are two ways you can reach Genting. One is via road to enjoy the roads, forests and a ride among clouds, another way is via cable car which operates from morning to midnight and gives you a breathtaking view of the tropical forest.
A two hour drive away from the city is Sunway Lagoon which is a water theme park and an awesome place to spend a day for the kids and adults like. It has 5 parks- extreme park which includes adventure activities like bunjy jumping, scream park which includes the haunted house, amusement park, interactive wildlife park and the water park. There is also a suspension bridge which swings a little as you move ahead towards the center of it and connects one end of the park to the other giving a beautiful view of the entire park. For the water lovers, water park provides rides and also a surf beach where you can the let out the child in you and relive your childhood. The entry ticket to the park includes most of the rides except for few like bunjy jumping.
To savor the taste buds of chocolate lovers, there is Cocoa boutique which is the finest boutique in all of Malaysia and provides all kinds of chocolates ranging from dark chocolates, white chocolates, milk chococlates to sugar free chocolates. The flavors range from every possible flavor you can think of like coffee, almond, raisin, orange, hazelnut and a lot more. It provides you with a whole lot of options for self pampering and also to put a smile on your loved ones face by buying affordable gift packs from them.
WHERE TO STAY AND DINE
There are a lot of places to stay and dine in the city ranging from mid budget to 4 star group hotels. The best hotels are in the Bukit Bintang area like the Dorsett Residency,Ritz Carlton etc. The best part about staying here is the hospitality in these hotels and there proximity to the main shopping area with the best malls just a five minute walk away. Also some of the best places to dine in are located in this area. With everyone’s favourite KFC,McDonald’s,Pizza Hut, the area also has many Chinese and Continental restaurants serving mouth watering sea food and other non-vegetarian dishes. Though,if you are a vegetarian like me you don’t have much options at hand, the only ones being a south indian restaurant and few items in The Loaf in The Pavilion. Also if you are looking for some snack items or for some ready to eat instant food and beverages, you can try 7-Eleven that is open 24/7. Also there is Mini India which is 20 minutes away via local train. If you are looking so some good kebabs, there are also many Pakistani and Afghani restaurants is the area offering good, authentic food at affordable prices.
Genting Highlands is the resorts world itself where you can choose to stay with good food and hospitality at your doorstep. For Sunway Lagoon, Sunway Pyramid is the best hotel to stay in. Though the stay is a bit costly but it has the advantage of being internally connected to the theme park and the Sunway mall which saves you the time and money for travelling.
