Known as the “Mother City” to the locals, Cape Town is situated in the bottom-south part of South Africa. This vibrant city is located in the Western Cape, as one of the nine provinces. Internationally known as travelers paradise the city is located below Table Mountain and the surrounding mountain peaks. A diverse culture of people lives and work in this lovely city.
The surrounding Cape area provides a bunch of outdoor activities for the nature enthusiast. Ranging from the iconic Table Mountain cable car that is fun for the whole family. A trip up the mountain and be done either by cable car or for the more in nature type, hiking trails that will fit any level of fitness. The surrounding mountains include Lion’s Head, as well as Signal Hill. These peaks provide a captivating view of the Cape Town surround of both the city and the ocean.

The iconic route amongst the locals is a must for any travelers of any fitness level. The route goes around the mountain peak and is +- 2km. The 360 degrees view from the top is a definite must when visiting the city and wanting to have a quick outdoor experience. At an elevation of 669m, it serves as a family/friend pack adventure. The route to the top consists of two parts for the beginner hiker of the more experienced. The beginner route offers a steady climb to the top with no climbing involved. The more experienced section allows for climbing enthusiasts by providing a small climbing section with chains and grips worked into the rock. This part provides a good challenge among a group and makes the route a little bit more technical.
Evening hikes are quite popular, especially with the full moon. Hikers take on this evening hiking experience, met with the light of the moon and city lights at the top. With the full moon, the route is fully lit and it allows for the evening ascent. It is always advisable to take a torch or headlamp to ensure you see where you are going. Hiking here is free.
This location is accessible by car and provides a wonderful view of the city and ocean surrounds. Many come here to enjoy a sundowner and reflect after a long week’s work. At 350m it provides a stunning view of the surroundings of Cape Town. It also provides short hiking trails to viewpoints, a must for all that want to explore a small bit of nature.
