Limassol is the second biggest city in Cyprus and one of the most popular tourist destinations. I always recommend visiting it to all my friends spending their holidays on the island. It is a city that has it all: fine dining places, clean Mediterranean beaches, historical old city, luxurious hotels, entertainment both for children and adults. In other words, it is a city for everyone.
Holidays in Cyprus are about the sea, sun, and fun. Whether you stay in a hotel, an apartment or even a hostel, you won’t be too far from the sea. Limassol has sandy beaches spreading along the seafront. The beaches are clean and most of them are blue flagged. Here are some of my favorite beaches I advise you to go.
I believe it is the best and the longest one in Limassol area. Besides, here you can find that golden sand. It is also very popular among families with children. You will find everything you need for a relaxing day including activities for your children, bars, and restaurants. Adventure lovers can try paragliding, diving or any other watersport offered at the beach. Ladies’mile is quite far from the touristic area and you will need a car to get there.
It is a must visit for photo enthusiasts. It is one of the favorite places among couples and divers. Surrounded by white rocks and green hills, the beach is absolutely beautiful. Since the waters are shallow and clean, families are also among frequent visitors here.
A beach for those who want to combine swimming with an educational excursion. The beach is located at the bottom of the ancient city Kourion’s ruins. The beach is divided into two parts. While one side is great for swimming with shallow waters, surrounded by cafes and restaurants, the other one is quite dangerous for tourists due to strong winds and waves.
All above-mentioned beaches are quite far from Limassol city center. However, you can always enjoy one of the beaches in the tourist area starting from St. Rafael beach (at St. Rafael hotel resort), Four Seasons, Amathus to Armonia, Dasoudi, etc.
What to do in Limassol?
What else to do in Limassol besides beach hunting? It is up to you, really, since this city has everything. Here are some ideas.
If you like studying history and culture, I recommend visiting ancient cities Amathus and Kourion mentioned above. They are basically museums under the open sky. Those who travel with children shouldn’t miss Fassouri waterpark. It provides plenty of attractions both for children and their parents. Another thing you can do is have a walk on Limassol promenade, which in combination with hospitable Cypriots, sunny weather creates an amazing atmosphere for tourists.
Discover the old town of Limassol, which is so unique and artistic. I love the architecture of this part, traditional old workshops, and graffiti created by talented artists every year with approval from the government. When you decide to take a rest from your walk tours, Saripolou square is the perfect option for getting a snack or a drink. At night the place turns into a big street party since music can be heard almost from each bar located at the square.
Limassol is a city that will leave a mark in your heart and soul. It is a place you would want to return to again and again.
