The infamous parts of Puerto Galera

Puerto Galera is a municipality in Oriental Mindoro, Philippines. We have read a lot of blogs about Puerto Galera, and they mostly give instructions how to get there, list of bars, hotels, and things to do. In this article, I will share my experiences within my 10-day stay in Puerto Galera, mainly about relaxing and sightseeing and discovering less famous and underrated places.

If you are looking for a private, less crowded place, you might want to check out these places:

D’ Mountain Beach Resort

This very simple and quiet resort is located in Talipanan, Puerto Galera. Once you get off the ferry from Muelle or White Beach, a shuttle or a small multi-cab will take you directly to the resort without extra cost, (Ferry companies have their respective shuttle, so you need to keep your ticket handy) Or you may take a tricycle. The fare ranges from 150 to 200 Pesos.

Prices at D’ Mountain Beach Resort are very reasonable. If you are a solo traveler, they can give you a very simple room with a bed, electric fan, TV, and a private bathroom ranging from 800 to 1000 pesos per day.

If you are a group of 3 or four people, you may get a room ranging from 2,100 to 3,000 pesos per night.

They also cook very good food for very reasonable prices.

You may also rent a scooter from them for 500 pesos per day. They also offer island hopping, snorkeling, and inland tour ranging from 2,000 to 3,500 pesos.

You may also enjoy a long walk along the beach without being bothered by a bunch of vendors since they are not located along the public beach.  You may visit the Mangyan Village which is on the other side of the resort.

Staying at D’ Mountain Beach Resort was a great experience. Since then, I always recommend this resort to my friends and colleagues.

Punta Del Este

Punta Del Este is in “Small Tabinay” and is a very quiet place. It is 10 to 15 minutes away from the town proper. You may rent a scooter from the owner of the place for 600 pesos per day, or you can take a tricycle (20 to 50 pesos to the town proper, 100 to 150 pesos to the white beach).

Imagine waking up to an amazing ocean view and fresh air, you may want to extend your vacation!

A room for 2 ranges from 2,400 to 3,000 pesos per day. You may want to search for this property in some booking websites if you need a bigger place.

This place has complete kitchen utensils and appliances, so you can cook your own food. You may also ask for their caretaker to take care of the laundry. This place is perfect in my opinion because it is not too far from the town proper, a few steps away from the beach. Has a TV with cable channels, internet connection, and a very relaxing ambiance. I will definitely stay there again and will recommend it to everyone.

Oceana Hotel & Beach Resort

Oceana Hotel & Beach resort is in Dulangan, Puerto Galera. It is 20 to 30 minutes from the town proper, 35 to 40 minutes to White Beach.

Once you booked this place, you have to coordinate with the owner, so he can pick you up, or you may take a tricycle from Muelle which will cost around 200 pesos.

A room for two starts at 2,000 pesos.

This place is quite old but still good for a short vacation. Staff are very friendly and serves great food. You may always tell the cook what you want, and she will do her best. If the food you want isn’t on their menu, the staff will go to the market to buy the ingredients and cook for you. The beach might not be the best, but the relaxing and friendly environment will make up for that.

If you like to drive around Puerto Galera, you may also check out these places that are worth all the effort:

Sinandigan Lighthouse

This lighthouse is around 15 to 20-minute drive from Sabang. It’s more ideal to use a motorbike or a scooter because the roads are a bit narrow on the way to Sinandigan. Not a lot of tourists are visiting this spot, but it’s is definitely worth a try.

Ponderosa Golf Course

Ponderosa Golf Course is on the side of Mt. Malisimbo, southwest of Puerto Galera. You may walk from the main road which could take up to 30 to 40 minutes. Not very ideal to take a tricycle from the main road as the road is quite narrow and steep, the driver might charge you around 400 to 600 pesos. Much better to rent a scooter.

I must say that this is not a typical golf club. This place offers other activities. You may want to experience walking on their hanging bridge, or try their zip line, or simply enjoy the view. Prepare your camera to capture the amazing view!

Sitio Dalaruan

Sitio Dalaruan is a 10-minute drive from Sabang, and 15 to 20 minutes from White Beach.

This is a very local place and offers the best in terms of snorkeling and other activities. You may meet locals who offer services to cook Filipino food and let you explore the coral garden, or feed the fishes. The price ranges from 2,500 to 3,500 for the whole package and the food (if you will deal with independent locals), you may need to bargain if you want.

I have tried a place called Beach N’ Bay in Sitio Dalaruan, and this place is surprisingly cheap! They only charge 200 pesos per activity, per person. No need to rent a boat. I tried snorkeling, fish feeding, and going around the coral garden to see the sea turtles and find the giant clamps. I have also been to the underwater cave. I only paid 800 pesos for all of those. If you need to leave your other stuff, you can pay them 100 pesos, and they will keep your valuables while you are busy.

I recommend this place to my friends every time they want to explore Puerto Galera.

These places made me realize that there are a lot of things to do and places to see in Puerto Galera aside from drinking and partying. Simply driving around Puerto Galera and relying on google maps is actually exciting!

Hello there!
Thank you for sharing about Beach n\' Bay.
I just wanna ask if how far from the shore is the snorkeling ang fish feeding sites, since you said that there is no need to hire a boat.
Thank you.
