Palawan, Philippines: Living in Paradise

When traveling to the Philippines, one of my recommended places to visit would be Coron, Palawan. According to Wander Wisdom, Coron is one of the Top 10 Most Beautiful Beaches in the Philippines. Coron Island is also the home to many beautiful lakes and lagoons such as the Kayangan Lake and the Twin Lagoon.

My family and I spent our 2016 summer vacation at Club Paradise Palawan. An exclusive island resort hotel located among many natural tourist attractions. It is a bit expensive but offers a lot of beach activities such as snorkeling, kayaking, scuba diving, paraw sailing, hiking, and island hopping.

Club Paradise Bracelet

There are a lot of cheap flights from Manila to Coron, Palawan. We took a Cebu Pacific plane from Manila to Palawan for about 1 hour and 15 minutes. When we arrived at the Francisco B. Reyes Airport, a van is already waiting for us outside at the arrival area. Club Paradise offers a roundtrip airport transfer for Php 1,830 per person. The driver gave us each a Club Paradise bracelet and drove us to the port where the hotel’s private boat will take us to the resort. The boat ride from the port to the resort will take at least 30-40 minutes.

Crystal Clear Water

Crystal Clear Water

Before arriving at the resort, I was already in awe of the view and the crystal clear water. I can already feel that I am in Paradise and I was so excited. The sand in the resort is super soft and they gave us welcome drinks while checking in. We also received a complimentary foot massage at our suite balcony after checking in. All of the employees are very friendly and accommodating.

The rooms you can choose from in the resort are the Beachfront Cottage, Garden View Room, Sea View Cottage, Hillside Cottage, and Garden Suite. We checked in at the Garden Suite, which is at least a 5-minute walk from the beach. You can choose to stay in the Beachfront Cottage if you don’t want to walk far and want to wake up to the view of the sea.

The resort also has different dining restaurants or bars to choose from:

  1. Ocean Restaurant – located at the front of the island. This is where you will be having your buffet breakfast. Open from 6:00 am onwards
  2. Dugong Bar – It is located inside the lounge area where you can also choose to play billiards and table tennis. Open from 7:00 am onwards.
  3. Shack Bar – this bar is located by the beach and near the swimming pool so that you can order your drinks conveniently while lounging under the sun or in the shade. Open from 7:00 am onwards
  4. Sand Bar – you can stay at their sand bar if you want to enjoy the beach at night. It is steps away from the sea and is open from 6:00 pm onwards.

At night, they set up a buffet dinner outside by the beach (in front of the Ocean Restaurant). You can have your dinner while enjoying the magnificent view, fresh air, and sand in your toes.

It is also the home to thousands/millions of fruit bats, you can see them hanging around in some of the trees inside the resort. You don’t have to worry because fruit bats only eat fruits (as per the name) and they don’t bite people (unless maybe they are threatened by humans). When the sun starts to set, the fruit bats start to wake up from their sleep and fly to where ever they can find fruits. It is also a wonderful site to watch all of the fruit bats come out. If you want to see them come out, you can wait by the beach while also enjoying the view of the sunset.

There are many things you can do while staying in paradise. The resort offers a lot of fun activities for you to experience. Some of it includes:

  1. Beach Activities

They provide equipment for different activities such as Kayaking, Snorkeling, and Frisbee. You can borrow these items from their office by the pool for free. However, you need to schedule when you’re going to use the Kayak because a lot my people might be using it at the time. There is also a kayak with a clear bottom so that you can see the clear water and small fishes swimming under while you are kayaking.

  1. Hiking

The resort has a hiking trail going to the Eagle’s Point (the island’s highest peak) and you might also discover the secret beach along the way. At the top, you can see the whole resort and different islets surrounding the island. You can go early in the morning so that it won’t be too hot while climbing the trail.

  1. Scuba Diving

For those who are scuba lovers, Coron is also one of the best places to go scuba diving. The resort will provide you with all the diving equipment and properly prepare you before actually go scuba diving. Coron has several house reefs and a healthy population of different species of fish. One of the main attractions in scuba diving in Coron is the shipwreck from World War II. Their Dive Sites include: House Reefs, Clam Garden, Kyokuzan Maru, Apo Reef Natural Park, and Barracuda Lake.

  1. Island Hopping
