What does, thrill and adventure seekers have in common. A heart of a Millennial.

Hiking, trekking and such are giving a sense of accomplishment to most of the people nowadays and it is becoming a trend in this era. Though they have different reasons such as, they might want to get healthier and make it a form of exercise or they use this as a stress reliever out of their daily routine or maybe they want to get into a new hobby or maybe they are just being dragged by their friends or simply they want to challenge themselves to try out new things. Whatever reason you have, one thing I know for certain is that you don’t want to miss this opportunity to see and experience this amazing place called. Batad Rice Terraces.

Batad Rice Terraces is located at Banaue, Ifugao, Philippines that are terraces that were carved into the mountains of Ifugao by the ancestors of the indigenous people or what we call the Igorots. It has been called as one of the 7 wonders of the World and locals until this day plants rice in this location.

Going to Batad, I was assigned to research and plan on how to get there, where to stay and a package tour for the most budget friendly price and here is what I’ve found. Abner Ulat. You can search him on Facebook or message him at +639268645814. He is the best decision I’ve made. For those of you who are planning trips, you know how stressful it can get to organize these things but when I got to talk to Kuya Abner, he helped me plan the whole thing.

Here are the sites we’ve got to see in our time in Batad.

1. Hagdan Hagdang Palayan (Rice Terraces)

Since cars couldn’t get in because there are no roads to pass through we have to trek to get to the transient house and since it is the start of our journey we are all so pumped up and excited to see everything that was instore for us.

After an hour or two of walking seeing nothing but green and brown, we were awestruck by how beautiful the view is. We didn’t expect that it would be this beautiful. It is like another part of the world. If the people around us are not speaking in our native language we might as well mistake this place for another destination outside the Philippines. Now, how is this for a morning view?

2. MT. AWA

We are not a group of hikers and since I was a bit spontaneous that time I still went with it. Kuya Abner told me that it takes at least 3 hours hike to get to the top so the others joined in. All are smiling and excited since this is all new to us. The view and the hiking that is.

As we are not trained hikers our body isn’t really fit for heavy hiking or trekking for that matter. So at the rate of our pace, we got to the top for 5 hours instead. It sure is thrilling and exhausting. I happen to have experienced Mt. Pulag but this is so much in a different level. Was it worth it? Believe me, it is one for the books.

I can hear the whole group’s taking deep breaths while climbing plus the complaining. All I can do is laugh at them, I know what they’ll do to me after we get down from here. Some got cramps and others slipping, but we didn’t worry because we have Kuya Abner and his team to assist us during the climb. They are superb and experts I tell you. Plus points for being our photographer since we couldn’t even do that to our exhaustion.

When we got to the top, it was worth it. It was amazing and the fulfillment that we felt are like heart flattering and butterfly in the stomach happy. Kuya Abner told us that not all visitors get the chance to go up there since it is quite the climb but we did it. We all did and no one gave up.

When we are going back to the transient house, unfortunately, it was raining and got a little bit slippery so it was quite dangerous but even so, the whole team was very caring and kind enough to assist us in our every step. Now ask me again if it was worth it? It is. I conquered Mt. Awa and I am proud of it. A few people have done it and to be honest I don’t actually know how I survived that climb. It was exhilarating yet exhausting so you would really want to just turn around and go back but the mindset we had was, one for all, all for one. So we all went and conquered that mountain.

3. Tappiya Falls

If you have been to Baler and saw the Mother Falls, you can call Tappiya Falls as Sister Falls (self-proclaimed). It not as big as the Mother Falls but it is as ice cold and majestic as well.

We took a different path from yesterday but it was as beautiful. I can’t actually stop being amazed. It was 360 degrees of wonderful.

Also met new friends along the way.

The man-made staircase is huge that is called as Giant Stairs. Conquering those stairs is already an achievement for beginners like us. Those stairs are no joke, I tell you. No joke. But since we’re already there, we gotta go through with it or else we would have regretted it. Would it be that regrettable? Hell, YES! It sure will be if we didn’t go. As I said, it was M.A.J.E.S.T.I.C.!

Wouldn’t miss taking a selfie right?

It was that good.

Water is cold trust me. It is colder than the ex that left you hanging. haha, The view and the experience was amazingly gorgeous.

 4. What you shouldn’t miss

Going up and down a mountain is no joke. I suggest you bring water and crackers when you rest along the way so you wouldn’t lose that energy. There are water streams that are fresh and good to drink along the trek, if you haven’t tried it yet, I really think that you should. It is very refreshing but if you have a sensitive stomach I suggest you bring your own water.

But before I forget, you shouldn’t miss trying out their famous Pinikpikan Chicken and Rice wine. You can ask, Kuya Abner to get those from you and he would gladly find you the best there is.

So for those who are looking for a getaway that exceeds your expectations or you just simply want to challenge yourself? I dare you to go to Batad. You would regret not going. It is an adventure of a lifetime!
