Born with a passion to travel and discover places, I take thorough pleasure in getting to know places from both a tourists’ as well as locals’ point of view. I take immense pride in showcasing the plushest as well as the most economical places in a(ny) city! That being said, I will not follow the expected route of travel writing that has a “Day 1…Day 2” format; I genuinely believe that every voyager has his/her own exploratory style and must stick to it!
Gold Coast happens to be Australia’s entertainment capital is where the rib tickling Bollywood blockbuster movie called ‘Singh is King’ was shot. Often confused with Brisbane by the outsiders, Gold Coast has a charm of its own. It’s one of those cities that offers two opposite kinds of lifestyle- one full of hustle-bustle, and the other with beyond imagination #chill ; which means anybody from Shakespeare’s 7 stages of life can revel Gold Coast!
The best way to get to know a city in two minutes is by catching up on some burning facts about it. Your thoughts?
Anyway, here you go:
You’d be amused to know that…
- Gold Coast will be hosting the 2018 Commonwealth Games!
- The whole of Gold Coast is peppered with massage parlors.
- Gold Coast has some of the most elite night clubs. You’ve gotta make your own pick and fast.
- Gold Coast is known for its golden beaches and is a paradise for surfers, speaking of which it has a beach called Surfer’s Paradise or Golden Beach from its… golden sand.
A city that must be viewed from various, rather all kinds of angles
Gold Coast is so beautiful that in order to allow its beauty to sink in, I resorted to 4 different means –
1. A fully guided helicopter ride at the Sea World that showcased most of Gold Coast’s wonders.
2. Sky Point observatory that gave me the pleasure of enjoying the beauty of the city ‘ entouraged ‘ by the Pacific Ocean, for hours.
3. Aqua-duck, am amphi-vehicle that takes you around the city on wheels first on its wheels and later converts into a boat is a must-have experience at Gold Coast. It’s a fully guided cutesy tour, ever! For more, explore:
As per me, it’s imperative go for (if not all) at least one of the aforementioned means to get a real sense of Gold Coast.
Top 3 things that shall not be missed at Gold Coast
3} The ‘Sea World’!
Sea world is a marine park and an oceanarium that promotes conservation through guided tours within the park and also rescues and rehabilitates injured/orphaned wildlife.
To sum up, this is the place for everybody who loves the ocean and the various living creatures who make the ocean worth diving into. The Sea World not just offers the amazing helicopter ride of the city but also has a plethora of observatories with various kinds of sharks, jelly fish, penguins, Dolphins, sea lions, etc. It also has plentiful shows running where these cute sea inhabitants perform and play with the audience.
PS… This could be the best place you could take your to kids for a kickass study lesson. For more, explore:
2} The ‘Dream World’
Home to the deadliest rides ever, Dream World has a lot more than the deadly rides. It has fantasy world for the kiddos, thunder river rapid rides for the fam-bam and something even more awesome than that (which I missed due to the time crunch, URGHHH): Hugging the Koala bear!
The father of all amusement parks, Dream World offers one of the most scary, fun and ‘will never be forgotten’ kind of rides. Now, I consider myself to be someone who can sit in chill on a roller coaster and I believe if I find a ride kickass, it’s most certainly not for weaklings. I will do the honors of listing down the 4 rides that are sinful to miss at the Dream World-
- Tower of Terror
- The Claw
- Tide Wave Simulator
- Hot Wheels Sidewinder
Dream World is not a pit stop, it’s a destination; which means you have to keep an entire perhaps two days aside to explore this beauty, if you are visiting with family (kids and parents, etc.). If you visit Gold Coast and step out without visiting the Dream World, then I am sorry to break to you, that you have to revisit the city solely for this! For more, explore:
1} Brekkie at the Sky Point Observatory Deck
Located 230 meters above the Surfers Paradise beach of Gold Coast, Sky Point offers a 360 degrees view of Brisbane (North), Gold Coast (West), Pacific Ocean (East) and Byron Bay (South).
Adventure lovers can opt for a climb at the deck. A variety of options are available along with dining packages.
It’s quite a delight when you get to enjoy one of the most beautiful cities in the world adorned by the Pacific from the 78th floor while digging into super scrumptious (Alliteration, aha!) food. For more, explore:
Over and beyond the places I have listed, Gold Coast has a lot to offer. I was there for three days and somehow feel that I should have stayed over for longer. I would thus strongly recommend you all to make a list of all the awesome places you would like to visit in Gold Coast and then zero in on the number of days you would stay there for especially if you are taking 10 hour flights to get to this beauty!
For me Gold Coast is that one destination that provides everything –
Fine Dining, check!
Breathtaking views, check!
Spa Delights, check!
Amusement Park, check!
Clubbing madness, check!
All in all, it’s a perfect holiday destination. What more can one ask for?
PS… If you have returned from Gold Coast, Australia without experiencing THE jet boat ride…it’s time for you to either mourn or book another holiday to this incredibly awesome city!
