In the south coast of Portugal, there is a land of stunning views, amazing beaches and poetic sunsets. This magical place is the city of Carvoeiro, located at Lagoa Council in the Algarve region.
Blessed with sunny days this beach holiday destination has a full lot of attractions to please the travellers who come for a visit. Beaches, cliffs, caves, historic towns, boat tours, shopping, wineries and good food is part of the options available to experiment.
In 2018 Carvoeiro was named European Best Beach 2018 by a known online portal dedicated to tourism.

Things to do
Located in the heart of the town, Carvoeiro Beach has a small sand strip protected by breathtaking cliffs. Reserve some time to spend the day between the bars, restaurants and shopping, then come back to sit and watch the spectacular Sunset.
During the day it is possible to take a boat tour to visit the caves and other beaches located along the coast, buy your trip at the beach entrance.
Tips: Bicycles are available to rent, cards are acceptable to pay
An incredible Boardwalk connect the Carvoeiro Beach to Algar Seco. Walk from Carvoeiro Beach to reach the Fort Nossa Senhora da Encarnação, then take the elevated wooden path. Don’t rush your steps, take time to appreciate the breathtaking cliffs. There are many places to sit along the coastline, so might you come back later to watch the Sunset and take pictures.
Walk through the car parking to find the steps to the visit the caves and the pools. Don’t miss the Boneca, a grotto in the heart of the rock with open windows to the ocean. Spectacular views are guaranteed!
The Boneca Bar & Restaurant is an option to have lunch or a relaxing drink during your visit.
Vale de Covo Beach
A small beach located 1.2km from Carvoeiro, behind the Tivoli Resort, the stairs to access are bit trick; the best way is to get access by boat. The view is outstanding!
Centeanes Valley Beach
Distant 2.3km from Carvoeiro town, the Centeanes Valley Beach is a quite good option to have a perfect beach day. There is a small beach near the Stop Restaurant and bigger strip the other side. The restaurant offers good food and drinks with a stunning view. Treat yourself and spent time appreciating this incredible place. The restaurant also provides the toilets facilities.
It is a famous beach in the region providing cinematographs views. The cliffs are amazing, and the M Rock is enchanting.
Tip: bring sunblock and food/water, there is one restaurant on the beach, but the prices are not attractive.
Benagil is famous in the entire world for the incredible Caves. The best way to get access to this speechless place is taking a boat tour. There are plenty of options to choose including a Beach Barbecue.

Day trips from Carvoeiro
A small fishing town, where you can find a relaxing ambience and delicious seafood. Visit the harbour, walk in the charming shopping streets or just spent the day on the beach.
Easily accessed by car, Portimão offers a quite nice shopping area as the Acqua Portimão Shopping and Retail Store Center. Do not go away before taste the famous Sardine in one of the restaurants at the harbour.
That is the place for those who love a party! Albufeira is famous for the nightlife; there are bars with live music and dance open all night long.
Lagos is an interesting city combining history, beautiful beaches, a harbour street. Explore the historic centre and reserve time to do a boat tour to visit the Ponta da Piedade.
Silves is a historic town and offers you an opportunity to escape from the beaches. Visit the Moorish Castle where a statue of the Portuguese King Sancho I is exposed. Walk through the historic centre visiting the Silves Cathedral, the Roman bridge, the museum. Beautiful places, amazing history can be found just around the corner.
On Saturdays, the streets of Loule gain a special vibe from the people who come to visit the Gypsy and Farmer’s market, plus the traditional Loule Municipal Market. All sort of things is selling on these markets, including street food, fruit and veggies, handcraft and jars of honey and sweeties. Also, spend some time visiting the Municipal Museum and the Loule Castle.

Seven Hanging Valleys hiking route might be a bit challenging hike, the total distance for a round trip is 11.5km, the trail between Centianes Valley to Marinha Beach provide amazing views of the ocean, cliffs and caves.

From Lisbon Airport, 195 km
From Faro Air, 64km
The recommendation is to rent a car, book a shuttle, use Taxi and Uber Services.
Also, it is possible to take a bus to Lagoa, then a Taxi or Uber to the town.

Best time to visit
Spring is the best time to visit Carvoeiro, lovely sunny days with temperatures around 20 degrees without the crowd from summertime. The low season goes from October to April offering a quiet period to relax. The waters are relatively cold even during the summertime with temperatures around 20 degrees.
Most of the days are bright and sunny.
Spring: temperatures between 18 °C to 23 °C
Summer: temperatures between 27 °C to 30 °C
Fall: September and October around 25, November is a bit colder: 17 °C
Winter: bright sunny days with temperatures between 12 °C to 17 °C, with cold nights around 9 °C
