Mussoorie is one of the most famous and beautiful hill stations in India. It has been named ‘The Queen of Hills’ due to its perfect weather and scenery. As a child, I loved going there in the summers as it felt like a break from the extremely hot weather in Delhi. After many years, I got a chance to visit Mussoorie again.

There is so much that has changed about this very familiar hill station. It has developed extensively and it seems so different from how it looked ten years ago. It is safe to say that most of the recent changes are for the better. With this transformation in Mussoorie, I think it is best to present an updated list of the best places to visit in the city.


1. Mall Road

Starting with the most popular place in Mussoorie, Mall Road is still one of the most enjoyable spots to visit. It can get quite crowded in this area in peak seasons, but it is a great place for shopping and trying out food. Mall Road is a must see place as it acts as a central point for obtaining information and reaching other destinations in and around Mussoorie. This place is filled with hotels, restaurants and shops.



2. Picture Palace

This area has really transformed in recent years. There is a great choice of restaurants and shops in this area. There were also a few good gaming arcades where I played retro games and some new ones. I loved this spot as it is full of life and the view of the hills is amazing. Picture Palace has definitely earned its place as a highly recommended spot in Mussoorie.



3. Company Garden

Company Garden is a beautiful and enjoyable location in Mussoorie. It is a delightful spot abundant of many kinds of flowers, plants and tall trees. It also has a few waterfalls and greenhouses for a variety of plants. There are many forms of entertainment available like boating and arcade gaming as well as fun activities for kids. The garden also consists of a wax museum and a restaurant that gives a mesmerizing view of the mountains.



4. Camel Back Road

The Camel Back Road is one of the most visited spots in the city. The name comes from this curvy road which resembles the shape of a camel’s back. The trip to Camel Back Road can be done by foot, rickshaw or taxi. This place offers a lovely view of the Dehradun valley and you can enjoy snacks and beverages available along the way.


5. Eco Park

The Eco Park is located in Dhanaulti, which is roughly an hour away from Mussoorie. The park is full of wonderful tall trees and the mesmerizing greenery of the hills. It is an ideal place for hiking and enjoying some adventure activities.


6. Cloud’s End

As the name suggests, Cloud’s End is a place where you will find yourself among wintry hills filled with clouds and tall trees, away from the busy roads of Mussoorie. This area is abundant of thick forest coverage. The oldest building in the city, a bungalow built in 1838 also resides in Cloud’s End. You can gain entry in this heritage site and engage in activities like hiking and hill climbing along the path.

1. Ropeway to Gun Hill

Gun Hill is a classic go-to place for everyone who visits Mussoorie. We reach this spot through the ropeway service which is quite fun. Generally, it is slightly colder on top of the hill due to the high altitude. This elevated spot has many shops and restaurants. Going to Gun Hill is one of the most popular activities in the city. It is a good idea to buy the tickets to the ropeway 1 or 2 hours prior to visiting.



2. Swimming in Kempty Falls

Kempty Falls is another highly recommended picnic spot in Mussoorie, India. The beautiful waterfall originating from the rocky Himalayan Mountains is a refreshing experience for tourists. People can swim in this waterfall area or go boating nearby in a man-made pond. Kempty Falls has a ropeway system in order to reach the lake area and also has many restaurants and shops. This place can be very crowded in peak seasons, so plan your trip accordingly.


3. Boating at Mussoorie Lake

This is one of the latest popular spots in Mussoorie. Mussoorie Lake is a man-made structure located at the outskirts of the city. Activities in this area include boating and aqua zorbing. Mussoorie Lake provides a great scenic view of the hills and is a perfect spot for kids as well as adults. People usually visit this spot before entering Mussoorie.

Best Season to Visit

The peak season of Mussoorie lasts from April till June. From July to somewhere in September, Mussoorie experiences heavy rainfall. The beautiful and snowy winter season in Mussoorie roughly begins in October and lasts till February. The snowfall season in the winter is a highly recommended time to visit. The peak summer season is also a great and pleasant time to take a trip to Mussoorie.


Final Thoughts

Mussoorie is undoubtedly one of the best places to take a refreshing break from a hectic lifestyle. It is one of the most highly recommended hill stations in India. My experiences in this city have always been pleasant and memorable. The scenery, shops, restaurants as well as the people are sweet and delightful. I don’t think I will ever get tired of revisiting this place. From adventurous curvy roads to the wintry look of the hills, Mussoorie is a fascinating and enchanting place to be.
