If you’re looking for a budget friendly travel trip outside your country, I highly recommend Hong Kong! Hong Kong is not just known as the shopping capital in the world as they say but the country has definitely more to offer than just that. Exotic foods for you to taste! Must do activities for you to try! Amazing places for you to visit! Those are just few things you absolutely have to do when you visit this beautiful country! Here are my top 8 best places and things that I enjoyed when we visited Hong Kong. And while we’re at it, I might just as well add some few tips for you to remember!
#1 Hong Kong Disneyland
You’ll definitely feel young again when you set foot to this amazing place! It is truly the HAPPIEST place in the world indeed! See Mickie, Minnie, Goofy and all of your amazing Disney friends. Try out several fun and exciting Disney themed rides for you, your family and friends. Roam around the place and visit different parts of Disneyland. It only takes 45 minutes to get there from TST (Tsim Sha Tsui) and you will have to board three different trains. Here’s how to get there:
- Take the Tsuen Wan MTR train towards Tsuen Wan
- Get off at Lai King Train Station
- Transfer to Tung Chung line, it should be Tung Chung-bound.
- Get off at Sunny Bay Station
- Finally, transfer to Disneyland Resort Line.
There are several lanes when you enter HK Disneyland. If you’re single and alone (No Pun Intended) take the single lane instead of the group lane. You can take your turn on the ride quicker and easier unlike the group ones. The only thing is that you’ll be seated next with other people you don’t know on the ride and you don’t get to choose which seat you want but that’s not usually a problem for us as long as we get on ride and have fun!
#2 Peak Tram/Victoria Peak
Definitely a must try! This is Hong Kong’s one of the most booked activity! While riding your way to The Peak, you’ll see amazing views and sights of the place. At the end you’ll reach Victoria’s Peak, country’s top tourist destination! See the whole 360 view of Hong Kong! You can also find Madame Tussauds Wax Museum here at the Peak Tower. Check out different stores there for getting the right souvenirs for your loved ones. Definitely a beautiful place to see beautiful Hong Kong!
#3 Ngong Ping 360 / Lantau Island
There are two types of cable cars you can try. Choose between Standard or Crystal cable cars. Standard types are pretty much the average cable cars you see on different countries while the Crystal types on the other hand are different. Crystal cable car has a glass floor instead of the normal steel floor that they use on standard ones. Definitely a must try when you visit Hong Kong! Visit Po Lin Monastery and the Tian Tan Budha also known as The Big Budha. Few tips to remember:
*Food are expensive there. If you’re on a budget, bring your own small packs or light meals.
*Getting there takes several minutes and you’re going to be on top of some beautiful sceneries of the city so make sure you keep your cameras and phones fully charged.
*Heading to The Big Budha might be a little hard for some. In order to get to there you have to take and climb 268 steps. Bring water as well when you visit this amazing place.
#4 Sky 100
Take a tour to one of the most highest building in the country! Get to the 100th floor in just 60 sixty seconds from the 2nd floor! See the amazing view of the city! It’s located on the 100th floor of the ICC (International Commerce Centre). Check out their Paris themed restaurant called Café 100 which can be found on the west side of the observation deck. It might not be a good view for you if you’re Acrophobic but it’s definitely a recommended place when you visit the place.
#5 Victoria Harbour
Check out this one of a kind place! Best viewed at night. Watch Hong Kong’s Symphony of Lights show there for free. Show starts at 8pm every night. One other budget travel tips for you to enjoy! Just make sure you get there before the show starts for you to get the best seat in the house. Bring as well some few snacks while you enjoy the beautiful light show!
#6 Lan Kwai Fong
Also known as the popular Club Street of Hong Kong. It’s a famous street in Central, Hong Kong. You’ll definitely have a great night at this fun place. Go clubbing, drinking with your friends or even just a simple dinner at this popular street. Find several bars and clubs for you and your friends to enjoy. The place might get crowded sometimes especially on holidays like New Year’s Eve or so but still, it’s absolutely a must do when you’re in Hong Kong.
#7 Ladies Market / Temple Market
Go on a shopping spree at this exciting place! Check out some different amazing souvenir stores for to choose from to get the right kind of item for your family and friends. Be careful though. Chinese are kind of a bit tricky when it comes to selling. They can convince you that it’s already the best price you can get but some stores have cheaper prices compared to others. So before you purchase one, make sure that it’s at the right price for you. Try to roam around first and see which store offers the best low price for you.
#8 Mong Kok
If you’re on a budget friendly trip, I suggest you look for a hotel or hostel at this place. There are several places for you to choose from but the cheaper ones are usually located at Mong Kok. The place also has tons of stores for you to check out. Several common fast food chains you can dine in if you’re already on a tight budget. Try some amazing and exotic street foods while you’re at it or their famous Egg Waffles as well. Take instragram worthy pictures at this place! See how beautiful this busy place could be.
Before you book your trip
Few tips to remember:
- One good tip to get rid of long queues is by using the Klook app. Book your tickets there and avail discounts or other amazing promotions. Download on your IOS or Android devices.
- Always bring some small snacks and water. Don’t leave with an empty stomach and stay hydrated all the times when you travel.
- There are a lot of transportation types at this place but I recommend taking the MTR instead. It’s faster and safer. It might be a little bit expensive unlike others but it’s more convenient and easier. Purchase their Octopus Card for paying and you also get to keep the card as souvenir and use it again when you visit the place. It even has it’s own app for your guide.
- Make sure to secure all of your travel documents
- And lastly is to HAVE FUN!
