A Day Trip to Siquijor

A Day Trip to Siquijor

Siquijor holds the bluest and clearest waters I have ever seen in my life. I almost couldn’t believe that a small town holds so much beauty. It has numerous tourist attractions that keep locals and foreigners entertained throughout the day.

Siquijor can be accessible through Dumaguete. There are hourly trips via fast craft and Roro, but the line could be long. It’s better to buy the tickets ahead of time to guarantee your visit.

The island can be toured on a day trip. When you arrive in Siquijor, you can rent out a tricycle for the day, and the driver will bring you to all the tourist attractions. This is incredibly convenient because you wouldn’t have to worry about directions or think about where to go and what to do. The driver will also wait for you while you’re enjoying the attractions. You can literally go around the island for the whole day via a tricycle.

On your visit to Siquijor, these are the places that will capture your interest:

Balete Tree and Fish Spa

This is a large tree, for sure. It has existed for 400 years, and it is believed to be enchanted. Locals also believe that rituals were performed around this tree, given that Siquijor is known for witchcraft. At the foot of it is a fish pond. You will see tourists dipping their feet for the fish to feed off of their dead skin. Around the area are souvenir shops. You can purchase keychains, magnets, bags, clothes, etc. The keychains take on the designs of voodoo dolls which some find cute while some find terrifying.

Cambugahay Falls

The Cambugahay Falls will draw you in. The water is incredibly clear, taking on a light sky blue color. There are three levels of pools that tourists can swim in. The highest fall is at the bottom, and that is where the fun is located.

The main attraction of these falls are the swings. For only 20php, tourists can hang onto a rope, swing themselves, and jump into the water. There are different levels of these swings, and you will have to pay 20php for each of the levels. This is only a one-time payment, though. This means that the jumps are unlimited.

Before you can reach these falls, you will have to take 130 steps downhill. The stairs are cemented rocks, so they’re safe. When going back up, you can take it slow for a bit because it can get exhausting.

Salagdoong Beach

The water in Salagdoong Beach will make your jaw drop. It’s so clear that the seabed can be visible even from high up. It captures a shade of blue that I swear I have not encountered in my life. The water is so clean that you can swim in the middle of the ocean and not worry about any obstructions. The water itself makes you feel safe and serene. You can also go up on a cliff or a hill and take in the view. You can also cliff jump and feel the adrenaline rush in your veins.

If there is one summer destination that I recommend in the Philippines, it’s Siquijor Island. Adventure and fun are guaranteed.
