4 Vegan-and-Vegetarian-Friendly Restaurants In Taipei

Being a vegan + traveler, despite the defying measures, certain unexpected circumstances still get me to experience having to hop in on non-vegan restaurants and ask whether they have a no-egg-and-no-dairy vegetarian dishes (because not everyone in the world knows what the word “vegan” means) or if they could specially modify a dish. This is such a struggle many vegans can relate to, but in these restaurants in Taipei I listed below, it can’t compare to what you get – whether it be convenience, instagrammability, or overall meal palatability.

1. Vegetarian Restaurant in Shilin District

This one’s a Lacto-Ovo vegetarian restaurant, hence, they serve breakfast omelette and their popular milk noodles. Thankfully, they also serve other delectable dishes that can be considered vegan — at a very affordable price. Situated conveniently beside Shilin MRT Station, this has always been my go-to when I’m in a hurry and in need of a fast vegan lunch meal.

2. Hello Kitty Kitchen and Dining

Are you a Hello Kitty fan? This place has a lot in store for you. They serve Hello Kitty-themed pastries, meals, ice cream, cakes, and many more that you will absolutely want to try. They mainly serve the sweet stuff so it’s not a problem for most vegetarians (it’s actually heaven because they include free Hello Kitty-shaped pudding and bread, plus cream!) but if you’re a vegan, you can ask for some dishes that don’t have milk and egg.

3. Chiang Kai-Shek Memorial Hall Restaurant

Chiang Kai-Shek Memorial Hall (CKSMH) is one of the best sites you need to visit when you’re on for the country’s history and culture. When you get hungry on a long stroll in the area though, there’s this restaurant that actually serve vegan dishes inside the iconic building.

So, whether you’re vegan or not, you don’t have to rush your activities and look for restaurants outside the pretty wide area when hunger strikes. Just ask a CKSMH worker where the restaurant is, dig in, and continue your activities. Also, the restaurant has a great ambiance and good food options.

4. Super Sad Hot Noodles

I have and will always be a baby for spicy noodles and this restaurant, just by its name, took me in whole. Located near the aforementioned Vegetarian Restaurant (like 10-15 steps away), this one owns the crown for Taiwanese spicy noodles. They quite a wide variety of noodles in different styles and flavors that are, of course, SPICY. I fell in love with their Spicy Peanut Noodles and another spicy noodles that are actually vegan. Also, you need to taste their homemade spicy radish appetizer. You’ll surely love it!

P.S.: Their noodles may be named “Super Sad” but they actually make me super happy!

The “Good-For-Everybody” Restaurants

Vegan and vegetarian-friendly restaurants in Taiwan, especially in Taipei, are countless! From the popular ones to the simple stalls in narrow streets, you’ll find so many of them in Taipei yourself. These four, however, are some of the best ones to recommend.

I hope you’ve learned well enough from this list of “good-for-everybody” restaurants you should visit on your next trip to the “Heart of Asia.”
