Sea to Summit X Mug,Blue

Introducing three innovative items for your next meal outdoors: Sea to Summit’s X-Bowl, X-Plate, and X-Mug are collapsible hybrids comprised of a rigid, cut-resistant base made of high temperature, food-grade nylon and walls made of food-grade flexible silicone, so they fold flat for compact packing. Each are tough enough to handle chopping with their sturdy nylon base. The silicone sides can withstand temperatures of hot foods and nearby hot surfaces up to 300 degrees Fahrenheit. The sides are flexible, so pouring liquids is easy. When collapsed down flat, the X-Mug nest within the X-Bowl, which handily fits into the X-Plate for extra space savings when packed.

Things To Consider when buying a Travel Mug

An essential item in the travel kit of the zero waste traveller is a cup or mug. In an age of convenience, disposable cups are everywhere, and almost always made of plastic or plastic-containing materials. Bringing your own mug on your travels empowers you to decline all of that waste.

What should you look for in a travel mug, as an eco-conscious traveller?

A Travel Mug has to be Portable

You'll be travelling, and most likely trying to travel light. Therefore a travel mug that is lightweight and does not take up space is key.

A Reuseable Mug has to be Easy to Clean

If the mug is easy to clean, you can rinse it quickly at a nearby sink, and it's ready to use again. Therefore, mugs that have minimal crevices which require scrubbing is best, if you're on the move. Otherwise, you would not be able to refuse the next disposable cup.

A Zero-Waste Lifestyle Item has to be Durable

In order to truly win zero waste credentials, the mug should be hard wearing, and long-lasting. If you're going to invest in a travel mug as a zero waste traveller, it should help you avoid as many disposable cups as possible. It should cope with the rigour of travel conditions.

What makes this the best Travel Mug?

Where else would you go to find an item that ticks all those boxes? You don't necessarily look for it in a travel store. You look for it among outdoor gear!

Pros

The Sea to Summit collapsible X-Seal and Go mug (or 'X-mug') squashes to a flat disc, taking up little space and hardly weighs anything. When I'm not travelling, I just tuck it into a side pocket of my handbag. When it opens up, the folds completely and easily stretch out, leaving no inconvenient crevices that are difficult to clean on the go.

Being made for outdoor use by adventure travellers, I'm pretty sure it would be more than able to withstand the demands of more ordinary travel. It is heat resistant, and BPA free - intended to hold hot liquids. I actually brought mine trekking in the Nepali Himalayas, and it came back down pretty much in the same condition. The lid also screws on airtight, which helps with avoiding spills.

The mug comes in bright colours. I normally prefer more understated colours, but there's something to be said for the bright orange that I bought. The colour makes it easier to pick out among other stuff lying around in my room when I'm packing to check out.

The mug from the Small set holds a regular size coffee. So far I've not been in a situation where a chain cafe or fast food place 'standard coffee' can't fit in it. But it definitely won't hold a bigger volume than that. Go for the mug from the Large set instead, which holds almost twice the volume.

Cons

This is a great mug. However, the airtight lid does get a bit 'too airtight' if you're moving it across significant altitudes (pressure differences). It can be hard to get it to open again. But, this is not really something that will often happen in travel.

Things To Consider when buying a Travel Mug

For me, coffee is the first and more important meal of the day. If I don't get a coffee, the day will not start, and I have to confess, that is not the only coffee I drink during the day. Normally when I travel the first coffee is not really a problem, almost always breakfast is included in the hostel.

The main problem starts after, when I don't know where am I, so finding coffee is more difficult. I know that sometimes is nice to just get in any place, but, first you're not always close to any place with coffee, and second, coffee addicts like me will know that not any coffee is good. And having a bad coffee is worts than not having any. This is why I find very necessary to bring my coffee with me all the time.

What you should consider before buying a mug

My first advice is:

"Do not choose your mug by the design"

I love nice things too, but there are a lot of colourfull mugs that are very expensive just for the design, that actually doesn't work very well.

Keep the temperature

All mugs conserve the temperature of your drink, but some can conserve hot drinks longer. Especially if you need your mug for coffee, is important you research that.

Perfect Size

If you are traveling you don't know when you will be able to refill your mug, have more of your favorite drink is better. Check the capacity of the mug so you can find one that can be handy and have more space.

Don't spill

You will need to be able to put your mug in your backpack without any fear to find all your stuff wet. Is quite important that the mug close perfectly and have no risk of spilling your drink.

What makes this the best Travel Mug?

After trying several I found this, Vremi Thermos Water is perfect, and here is why.

Shape

Having a thermos in your hand all the time is not an option. But almost all thermos are more width so they don't fit in the pockets of your backpack, Vremi does. It is slim so it will fit in any pocket.

Don't spill at all

Vremi Insulation Station Thermos can be upside down and there will be no liquid spill. Just make sure you put the cover right.

It is bigger

One cup of coffee is not enough for me. I found several thermoses that had 12 oz, and they occupied even more space. This have 17 oz, so you can have two cups instead of one, which is pretty good, especially for the next reason.

Keep the temperature

For a very long time. For me, the hot temperature is the important one. Normally thermoses keep the coffee hot for around 3 hours, what means, after lunch you coffee is going to be cold. Vremi Insulation Station Thermos keeps it super hot for those 3 hours, so if you drink 5 it five hours later it will not burn, but will still be hot.

When it comes to cold, works the same.

Nice and Colorful

Yes, I know I said don't choose your thermos for this, but, Vremi has does work very well, but also you can buy it in different bright colors, that give your traveler set a nice and personal look.
