The Beaches

Let’s come to the main part now. Like I said before this list will not include the typical tourist spots that you would come across in other articles. This list is also keeping in mind a family holiday with a large group. The Beaches Anjuna Small Vagator/Vagator Ashwem Morjem Arambol Anjuna A lively beach with people, and great shacks. These shacks are known to serve good sea- food. During season time, this beach is great to indulge in water sports.

Aditi Mahajan

This answers to my pray for for ‘Beach Please, I need Vitamin Sea!’. Goa has over 25 amazing beaches, which varies from the party life destinations to the serene and peaceful ones. Normally the beaches of North Goa are considered to be more happening and lively than those of South Goa which are quieter and more secluded. North Goa- Famous beaches in North Goa are Baga, Calangute and Anjuna; which have shacks buzzing with life, serving lip-smacking delicacies from not only the Konkan cuisine but from different cuisines around the world along with cocktails and mocktails to go along. My favorite beaches to just bum around and soak in the the beauty of the surroundings are the trio of Arambol, Mandrem and Morjim. They are the underdogs when it comes to the best beaches in North Goa. Nothing beats the calm and serene nature of this trio. South Goa- It is rather mellow, with serene beaches like Palolem, Colva, Varca and Galgibaga (famous as a nesting ground for Olive Ridley turtles) which are cut off from the world, but really worth visiting, if you are looking for some peace and quiet. 2) Adventure Sports: Goa is also an adventure junkie’s paradise. Variety of water sports like Parasailing, Jet skiing, Bumper/ Banana rides and others are offered at famous beaches like Baga, Calangute and Colva. Morjim beach is famous for Kite Surfing. If this was not enough, there is kayaking and crocodile sight seeing available at Mandovi river. Plus, Goa has recently come up with hot air balloon at Chandor(South Goa)and Go Karting is also available at Arpora near the Baga-Anjuna road.

Baba Au Rhum

Baba Au Rhum is located near the Anjuna-Baga backstreet and is one of the best places you can go to. The burgers are pizzas are the things that you must order. The servings are huge and the food is to die for. Apart from the legendary burgers and pizzas, they have freshly baked goods the smell of whom is enough to make your mouth water. Make sure that you save some space for dessert as their patisserie holds a large number of delicious treats.

Mrigaya Dham

Most of the local guest houses and B&B’s offer their guests an option to hire bikes as well. The Goans are pretty hospitable and extremely helpful when it comes to guiding their guests around the city.  POPULAR PLACES TO VISIT Old Goa Churches Dona Paula Fort Aguada Baga & Candolim Beaches (very popular with tourists; there are plenty of other beaches to explore) Panjim City (You can choose from a boat cruise with live music and a jazzy night affair or get lucky at the floating casinos in the state capital) Flea Markets in Anjuna (Wednesday) & Arpora (Saturday)  Palolem Beach (Located at the tip of Goa, it has water sport options and a few shacks) Cansaulim Monte (The locals will have a few stories to share, so its best to visit during the day. Be sure to catch a spectacular view of the Arabian sea from here) Dudhsagar Waterfalls (Located 60 kms from the city, on the border of Goa & Karnataka, it is considered a special attraction) Tropical Spice Plantation Local travel and tours offer 1 day tour packages at reasonable rates to North Goa / South Goa / Dudhasagar & Spice Plantations

Marcia Rodrigues

Goa is surrounded by water on the west side with a coastline of 131 km. It has plenty of beaches with several water activities. The beaches on the north side experience a lot of crowd, whereas the beaches on the south side a bit serene and slightly secluded and undiscovered. The most famous beaches of North Goa are Anjuna beach, Baga beach, Candolim beach, Calangute beach, Vagator beach, Arambol beach, Morjim beach. South Goa has beaches like Palolem, Bogmalo beach, Colva beach, Mobor beach, Kakolem beach, Agonda beach, Butterfly beach. The beaches provide a lot of water activities to be done under supervision. There are a lot of shacks around the beaches that provide fresh food and drinks, even karaoke and dance floor.

The Beaches

Goa is regarded as India’s beach capital, let us briefly look into some of the popular beaches. Anjuna Beach Baga Beach Calangute Beach Colva Beach Dona Paula Beach Anjuna Beach: Located just 18 kms from Goa’s capital, Panaji, Anjuna beach is one of the favorite beaches for travelers. The spellbinding view at the beach can easily mesmerize you and make you feel elated. One of the primary attractions is the flea market.

Bikram Bhakat

Let’s start with North Goa:

It is not just Baga, Calangute and Anjuna that are in the North. There are many more beautiful, calm beaches all along the state. A little above the Anjuna, Baga stretch is Vagator which I have to admit is simply more mesmerizing than the other three. Of course, if you are looking at the parties and shacks Baga does have the crowd but if you want the same experience with less crowd head further up north, maybe all the way to Querim beach which is right at the Goa Maharashtra border.
