Travel Tips

All in all, I think Chongqing is one of the most exciting cities I have had the opportunity to visit, and would recommend it to anyone planning a trip to China. I would also like to point out that my time there was limited, and there is so much more to do and see. I cannot comment personally on it, but I know there are hot springs and panda sanctuaries, beautiful mountain regions and river cruises that go from Shanghai all the way to Chongqing. This article is just on what I experienced first hand. I hope you found this useful, and wish you all safe travels!

Getting around Beijing

The second greatest decision was taking the train from Beijing to Xi’an or Shanghai for the price of 149 CNY and small hard seat for the next 15 or more hours. If you thing that was hard, try to imagine people who were standing all the way…

Your Guide to: Beijing, China

Beijing was the second stop on my adventure that took me by train from China to Helsinki. An enormous city, it was pretty impressive from the offset. Even though I arrived at night, the atmosphere was bizarre. I’d flown in from Shanghai, so I already had an idea about how the population crisis affected everyday Chinese life, but I wasn’t prepared for Beijing.

Anhui province

The capital of this province is Hefei city. You can take a long distance bus or a train from Shanghai to Anhui province. This province has at least 3 ancient villages. The ancient villages are already very touristy and a bit pricey to get in, but still very interesting. The movie Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon was filmed in one of the ancient villages, Hongcun. When I was there, there were a lot of painters in Hongcun. In fact, it is even called “a village in the Chinese paintings” because of its dramatic willow trees near the river and the reflection of the ancient Ming and Qing houses on the riverbank. The best part of this village is the Moon Pond, also called Yuezhao.

Hangzhou after the G20

For me, Hangzhou was one of those cities that can be easily traveled to from Shanghai in the fast train, paying a fee that could vary from 10-12 USD (around 60 to 76 rmb) but at the time I was so hung up on Shanghai’s charms that I never bothered to actually make the trek until a job offer paved the way. I found myself visiting the city at the end of April, sweating profusely while walking (in high heels) the sunny streets of Hangzhou to attend an interview.

Hidden beauties of Guangdong province

Almost all travelers and tourists coming to China mostly visit Peking, Shanghai and Xi’an. Of course, these three places are called the golden triangle and offer the most popular Chinese tourist attractions. However if you have time or just simply want to see natural beauty and avoid crowds then the Guangdong province is the right place to go.
