Let me paint a picture…
We returned to Airlie Beach that afternoon with a deal at Boaties Bar for food & drinks. The next day we would continue our road trip to Byron Bay. The plan was fairly laid back from then on. I wanted to see; 1770, Rainbow Beach, go kayaking in Noosa, visit Byron Bay & Nimbin, and do a surf lesson somewhere along the way!

Fraser Island Trips from Noosa
It is possible to book guided tours to the famous sand island Fraser Island. However, Noosa Heads is from my point of view not the right place to start a Fraser Island Trip. It’s still quite far away from the island and that’s why you would waste too much time in a bus to get to the Fraser Island ferry. And then again you would spend less time on the island and also pay more money compared to tours from towns closer to Fraser Island. Better options are Rainbow Beach and Hervey Bay.

Australia: A 5 Week Trip
Post Fraser Island, I took another bus to from Rainbow Beach to Airlie Beach (14-hour drive). Here, I spent just one night as the next morning I got on a 3-day sailing trip to the Whitsundays. Again, all meals included in this trip.

Getting There
To access the island, you can either catch a ferry from Rainbow Beach; where you will arrive at Hook Point on the South end of the Island, or Hervey Bay to Wanggoolba Creek. The main issue with travelling to a sand island is the mode of transport – you cannot drive on sand without a 4 Wheel Drive.
