Climb The 1000 Steps

Melbourne is surrounded by an abundance of beautiful native forest, not to mention in such close proximation to the lush Dandenong Ranges and the breathtaking Grampians National Park. These are both several hours drive out of Melbourne however. So if I’m in need of a little dose of nature and some fresh forest air I head somewhere a little closer – to The 1000 Steps Kokoda Memorial just past Fern Tree Gully.

Camping the Grampians and Little Desert National Park

The Grampians National Park, just 3 hours from Melbourne, is a great escape from the city and a very affordable trip. We spent 3 days here, followed by a day at the Little Desert National Park. The cost of our rental car, fuel, campground fees, and grocery store bills was approximately $500 for 2 people for 5 days of travel.
