Hello there! I have lived in this big city almost my whole life and I know for sure it can be a little intimidating to foreigners, so I made this list of 3 of the most emblematic places. Either if you are in a short visit and don’t have much time or you just want to add them to a bigger list of things to do. Here they are:

Palacio de Bellas Artes

Inside the buidling you can find a cafeteria, as well as a book shop and a gift shop. Here is the link to the homepage so you can check out all the events.

Other important places around the area are the zócalo or Plaza de la constitución, oficina de correos (which is across the street form Palacio de Bellas Artes), the cathedral, and templo mayor.

Coyoacán

Coyoacán is one of the most emblematic boroughs of Mexico City. It is like a little town lost in time. If you want to get a glimpse of mexican culture, this is definitely a place to visit: colorful colonial houses, handcrafts, bars, cafés and all kinds of restaurants, traditional food, book shops, museums and more. In the heart of Coyoacán you will find a trolley which will take you to the most important places in the area. There are many things you can do in Coyoacán, I will help you with a little itinerary so you don’t get too overwhelmed: start by getting a coffee in the famous coffee shop El jarocho, next hop on trolley so you can get to know the area a little better and find the the places you would like to visit later. Next you can go to the house of Frida Kahlo, also known as Casa Azul,  which is now a museum.

If you are getting hungry, a great place to eat is Los Danzantes, which is a mexican food restaurant with a modern touch. After lunch you can take a walk trough jardín centenario and jardín hidalgo and go to the Mercado de artesanías, this is a big market full of mexican handcrafts, this is a great place where you can find gifts for friends and family. If you feel like chilling and getting a drink, maybe having some mexican snacks, I recommend El hijo del Cuervo, which is a classic for locals. If you are in the mood for some mezcal or craft beer you can go to Corazón de Mezcal. These are a few options, but there are lots of places to visit in Coyoacán, just by walking through the streets I am sure you will fall in love with it and find endless activities perfect for you.

Bosque de Chapultepec

Bosque de Chapultepec

Bosque de Chapultepec

Bosque de Chapultepec is the largest park not only in the city, but in Latin America, it is considered Mexico City´s lungs. The park is divided in three sections. In the first section you can visit the Chapultepec Castle, it was the residence of the emperor Maximiliano and his wife Carlota in 1864. The view from the castle is amazing, and the castle itself is a beautiful building. Also in the first section you will find the modern art museum, the Chapultepec zoo and the National Auditorium. If you get hungry there is the restaurant Casa del lago which is next to an artificial lake, a very nice place to eat.

The second section is a great area to excersise, there are specific places for jogging, yoga, and other activities. You can also find some great museums such as The papalote which is an interactive children’s museum, the natural history museum and the technology museum. The amusement park La Feria is also located in this section. There is another important location in this section, which is not open to visitors, it is the official residence and office of the president of México and it is called Los Pinos.

The third section of the park is the least known area and it is primarily an ecological preserve for various species of flora and fauna.

So these were my three options for your visit in Mexico City. Of course I could write an endless list of things to do, even just in those three places, but there will be many other posts so you can get to know them. I hope you enjoyed this post, and mostly I hope it can be very useful for your trip. If you have any question or suggestion, you can leave it in the comment section below, and I will be happy to help. See you in the next post!
